fricking burning a redshirt on him? With him kicking Arkansas wins the game.

Cole Hedlund, and yes, we're RSing the #2 kicker recruit in the country for Henson.

Build up the talent in recruiting classes. This isn't the year to burn puzzle pieces in my opinion.

At the time, I assumed that Henson had a preference for that side of the field. Even though that's strange for a right-footed kicker.

Sure, but for a K? A kicker never redshirts and he wasn't expected to redshirt. Hedlund was signed to replace Hocker day he stepped on campus. Something had to happen, injury or something, for us to use a walk on over him.
247 had Hedlund as our Impact Freshman coming out of camp saying:
quote:
Arkansas – Cole Hedlund, K, Argyle, Texas: Hedlund is first in line to replace Zach Hocker, who was drafted by the Washington Redskins. Hedlund was the No. 2 kicker in the nation according to the 247Sports Composite, and was a heralded high school prospect. A Parade and USA Today All-American, Hedlund made 56 field goals in high school, connected on 157 consecutive extra points and was 24-for-30 with a long of 57 yards as a senior. He is expected to be the Razorbacks’ starter this season.

True, but kickers can also win and lose games for those shallow teams that can pull a rabbit out of a hat now and then (see today).

But seriously though, where is Hedlund? He had to of gotten hurt or something.

Yeah there has to be an explanation.
Posted on 9/27/14 at 10:41 pm to Hog on the Hill
maybe not introducing him in Dallas? the kicker probably asked for legit opportunities and probably asked to redshirt to get ready to play in the nfl.
eta: i mean to get a year of practice so he doesn't slip up and can play in the nfl.

Hedlund's from the Dallas area. I'd think that wouldn't be an issue.

He's saving him for when we're better. Should have won that fricking game going away. fricking fumbled snaps, critical penalties, and a stupid arse OC cost us this one. Motherfrick1!!!!!

the OC did not cost us the game
skipper doesn't trip that guy we go ahead 35-14
we don't fumble that snap when we're driving it down their throat in the 4th, we win
both mistakes made by a sophomore and freshman respectively.

Really? Because I disagree with the logic if so. Saving a kicker doesn't make sense unless you're going to be really good, and if you're really good, then you can recruit another. Redshirting him could be the difference in bowling this year or not, which seems more significant for program growth than knowing who our kicker will be in 2017.

I dunno. I'm just talking out of my arse.

You don't RS a kicker if he's good, ever, just doesn't happen. He was expected to start in July, and was named our Impact Freshman of the Year by 247 in July. Now he's just MIA and no one knows.

He's an 18 year old freshman. They can bit a bit uncertain if you've never been one of raised one.
I like our improvement. We are good enough to be heartbroken again. Next year we'll be good enough to do the heartbreaking. We'd win any conference other than the one we are in. Think about it.

"There has been great competition," Bielema said. "We basically kicked every day last week....Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday. I had eight kicks last night, on a Sunday we never usually kick. This week we will kick on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday."
Bielema said the competition is between Henson, third-year sophomore Adam McFain and true freshman Lane Saling.
quote:
One kicker who isn't in the competition is freshman Cole Hedlund, who was signed out of Argyle (Texas) this past February. Hedlund was a highly-decorated recruit. He was a 3-star on 247Sports, Parade and USA Today All-American. Bielema talked about the plan for Hedlund.
"Cole has done well, but we're going to redshirt Cole," Bielema said. "I kind of made the decision when we went with John in the opener that Cole had done a lot of really good things, but didn't really have the leg strength or consistency that we wanted to go ahead and play him as a true freshman.
"We will go ahead and stick with the plan. He's involved in a pretty detailed development season and we really think he has got a very bright future."
