Depth chart

Still surprised to see Clary starting. Gibson at right tackle scares the devil out of me. Curl is listed as replacement for Pulley. Going to have to grow up fast.

I agree. Gibson and Clary scare me.

I imagine TCU and other teams will try and pick on Curl.

Florida A&M did. They got two late first downs throwing at him when he was playing deep off the line.

I figured tutt or Richardson would get the nod due to experience. Didn't know kurl was better than Callaway either. Considering how highly recruited calloway is. Jackson lookes lije more of a liability than gibson to me. Clary starting is shocking. Says alot about merrick imo guess it's time to call him and Wallace a bust. Sad considering how touted they were coming out of high school but as long as clary performs I'm ok with that. I think Gibson would be better at guard but we just don't have a good true tackle

I'm concerned that the backups across the front 7 are almost universally true or redshirt freshmen.

Clary was actually decent ( LINK to my recap thread touching on the OL) against FAMU, whereas Colton Jackson was the glaring weakness on the offensive line.

Curl/Calloway, for all their talent and potential, scare me at the one corner position. Simply due to inexperience. TCU will go at them early and often. Hope they rise up to it.

What happened to Burt and his massive O line pipeline?

We've been talking about a shitty o line for 3 seasons now. Get it together.

Are any of these guys ever going to pan out?

Coaches obviously know more than us, but why not slide Tutt over to that spot instead of keeping him as backup to Toliver, if anything to forego having to throw a true freshman to the wolves?

Who knows, maybe Curl and Calloway are the second coming of the Legion of Boom, but I'm just leery of putting them to the test like that.

I'm not bashing Bert, but I'm deeply concerned that in year 5 our OL consists of a converted DT, a former walk-on, and a true freshman walk-on. Meanwhile, we have a few formerly heralded 4 stars (notably Merrick and Wallace) who apparently haven't developed and can't get on the field.

That should be a concern even to the most ardent sunshine pumper.

It's been 2 seasons. Not 3. Brandon had a good o line.

corner is the one position where experience doesn't really do you jack shite of good if you aren't an athlete. coach has said curl is blessed genetically

Lest we forget that Jackson was the one who got replaced last year after the Auburn game after Gibson went to Bert and basically begged for a chance. What does it say about Wallace that he hasn't been able to break into the starting rotation?

Jackson was replaced at right tackle by Brian Wallace after the Texas State game. Gibson replaced Raulerson at right guard for the Florida game.

I've rewatched the FAMU game multiple times and think Clary/Gibson are fine. We need a left tackle and Jackson ain't it. The bad part is that he is athletic enough to be good. He must close his eyes when he initiates contact because he whiffs more often then not.

Brian Wallace can be good but he is slow as molasses on his pass set - or at least was last season.

True, but Tutt was slated to be a starter, or at least a significant contributor, going into last year before getting injured in fall camp. It's not like he's a warm body.

You're right, I completely had that arse-backwards. Fixed.

I rewatched the Florida game the other day out of sheer boredom and they'd mentioned Gibson begging Bert for a chance, and I had it my head that it was Jackson he replaced. I'd forgotten Raulerson was initially a starter last year and how poorly he played.

How could you forget about the guy who was worse than the D linemen?

Meh, Froholdt wasn't good, but he's strong as a bull and a masher in the running game, whereas Raulerson just couldn't move anyone.

Pass pro, however, was a different story with tGreat Dane last year...

Raulerson and Gibson are a case study on the over-rating of Texas recruits and the under-rating or Arkansas recruits.

Raulerson was a 4 star offensive line recruit who weighed 260 lbs. in high school with offers from almost every blue blood program. Gibson was a no star recruit who was on the way to UAPB.

Raulerson is garbage on skates. Gibson is a mauler.

The stars were wrong.
