What's bad is our 2nd string D-line and secondary is just as nasty as the first.

I was thinking of Ramirez and Toliver. Coley played well last year too. They also aren't going to cut them any slack because they're battling for playing time ;)

Wouldnt really say Toliver is a backup. Hes starting nickel and will be on the field more often than not.

It is refreshing to hear a coach say "Yeah we are probably going to get beaten up, we just want to make them earn it."
Still, they have reason to be cautiously optimistic about the season if not the game. Kugler seems to be building a physical time of possession team down there to try and ground the high flying Conference USA/Big 12 offenses that UTEP usually faces. If they improve this season they should be in the hunt for C-USA title, which would be a feather in the cap for a program like UTEP.

They gave Texas Tech a run for their money last year. Although it was mostly due to Tech being a shitshow. They had like 11 or 12 penalties.
One UTEP drive, it was 4th and 9. UTEP punts but there is a flag for 2 Tech players with the same number. 5 years penalty, now 4th and 4. Re-punt and Tech gets a flag for their second sideline interference of the game. 5 yards, 1st down UTEP
