I've started a similar thread before. Was originally interested in Fayetteville, Bentonville area, but still seems pretty large for my taste. I'm medical, so have to be somewhat near a hospital for work. I love Heber Springs, but not sure about hospital options there. What about Harrison, Mountain home, or even places outside Fayetteville I could reasonably commute to?

Spend a good amount of time around that area during the summer. I love it but I could never live there.

If I had the freedom and professional flexibility to live anywhere in Arkansas, it'd be in Heber. Granted, I'm in my early 30s and have the routines of an old man.

Greers Ferry is a beutiful lake and that part of the state is gorgeous.

Mountain Home is very similar, but has a more seasonal/vacation economy and feel. Trout is huge in that area and provudes a fishing experience quite unique in Arkansas. I think both would be neat places with their myriad outdoor activities.

It really is, most don't realize this till they visit some of the other lakes around the state.

I think Russellville's location in relation to good nature options is underrated.

It's not huge, but its a college town and puts you in some pretty country, while remaining outside the larger metros.

Van Buren/Alma would be small town areas where you could commute into Fort Smith and its two big hospitals. Greenwood is also an easy commute.

How small a town you looking for?

I currently live in Mississippi so anything is an upgrade. I really don't care how small the town is as long as I can commute to a decent sized hospital that actually has an operating room. I think I may just take a week off and drive to find the right place.

Come check out the Springfield/Branson area in Southwest MO. We've got quite a few Arkansas and Missouri posters living up this way. Right at the top end of the Ozarks and two major hospitals here. Both are level 1 trauma centers. It's also only a two hour drive from Fayetteville and we've got Table Rock lake for your outdoor needs.

Give Hot Springs a good look. Plenty to do there. Good food, good entertainment, close enough to run to the state capital city if you want to find more. Not a bad drive to Dallas from there if you want.

I forget that my name is Columbia which throws people off on here. That comes from the County I grew up in. Was a great place, but SouthArk isn't what it once was and I prefer mountains. The only thing that drives me away from NWA is I hear the deer hunting isn't all that great.

Yep. I'd figured you were quite a bit older. 50s-60s.

Meanwhile, in South Arkansas, I killed 8 deer backing out of a driveway on my last visit.

Seriously, during hunting season you bag your limit.. and during the rest of the year you have to try extremely hard not to kill twice that many driving.
