This may be the worst basketball team I've ever seen @ Ark

but damn its hard to not like this bunch of guys that are as scrappy as these. Not much talent, not much leadership, and quite frankly, probably not one of them could start for a top 25 team. This team just out hustles the other teams to stay competitive.

Can you name a team that was worse?

Hope Mike Anderson's can turn it around next year, his 6th.

WPS

Edit: Impressed with Moses Kingsley's development, good job to him and the coaches.

agreed. I'll admit sadly I've come to expect us to keep it competitive til the last 3 minutes and then we lose by 7.

Pfft been saying most of that for weeks now. In their own way they're one of my fave teams in a long time. They are kinda like the bad news bears but I always appreciate a team that plays that hard and scrappy like you said. They're only as talented as they are- the players can't help that.

I'd almost argue it's perhaps Mike's best coaching job (getting them motivated that is) with the lack of talent they have but then on the flip I know there's the questions of how did he let the team get to that point as far as talent.

I saw a lot out of Moses his freshman year that had me actually comparing him to Olajuwon after some of his post moves (not to mention the obvious defensive/African parallel). I actually said back then that I thought Moses could end up being the better pro (compared to Portis).

Now - needless to say, Bobby Portis won me over. I was PISSED when the Mavs passed him up. But I can't help but think a guy like Moses, who is STILL learning and relatively new to the game, has a long future in the NBA.

There are some players that seem like they could make some decent money playing overseas. And there sure isn't anything wrong with that.

I'm certainly not thrilled with the program, but I will at least say that there's still a little hope for in-season improvement. Beard is still getting comfortable again, for instance.

I think Mike would be just fine here if he would get some great recruiters onto the staff. The missing piece is talent his system and coaching are fine. With that said I don't know that he'll make that happen.

Heath's first team and Pelphrey's second team were worse IMO.

Can't see him getting rid of any of these coaches either. TJ needs to get off of Mike's tit and try and find his own HC job.

08/09 was pretty depressing, and was a total shite show. Beverley gets a season suspension for cheating, which he was the fall guy for apparently. Half the team is routinely suspended, McDonald transfers before SEC play, Marcus Monk was probably ineligible the few games he played, and they only won FOUR games after december. i think three players transferred, McDonald was mid-season.

if it wasnt for the miracle wins against Oklahoma and Tejas, which featured probably ineligible Monk, it would sit along side the John L year as a program low point.

and it was a mirror image of what MA is dealing with. breaking in a young, inexperienced team after a large majority of the previous year's production graduated or declared after a Round of 32 loss to UNC.

its easily the most abysmal year of Arkansas basketball i lived through, perhaps besting Heaths first year, which i dont remember in any detail except that Heaths teams were absolute torture to watch. just the worst.

even if this current team doesnt win 2 more SEC games, which they will, it still wont be half as horrible as 08/09. of course, the next season started off with that whole rape investigation, so maybe it did get worse.....

This staff isn't terrible at recruiting. BJ Young was a 5*, Kingsley and Kipita(They got him) were 4*s from out of state with alot of offers, The class they just signed appears to be very good.
I'm actually impressed by player development. Madden, Qualls, and several off of this team to name a few have really expanded their skillsets.

I believe I've seen worse. Heath and Pelphrey years definitely come to mind.

I'm hoping the blowout loss at aTm was an outlier.

Otherwise, we have been losing, but for the most part the losses were close.

I think this bunch is finding themselves. At least I hope they are. Might not make the NCAA this year, and NIT isn't a given either depending on how they progress - but with a year's experience and a talent and depth shot in the arm from next year's class, I think they've got a shot to be pretty darn good next year.

For sure. Way fricking worse.

This team has two All-SEC players, potentially 3 if Hannahs can ever play consistently.

Bell and Kingsley are fricking beasts.

Bell's three on Tuesday. frickin' Nails. So glad to see him finally playing so smart and within his game.

It wasn't an outlier. It was a road game against a top 25 team with a shite ton of upper class talent.

Bell and Moses could make it.

Didn't say first team, but they easily could. Did you check their stat lines after the Vandy game?

I can definitely see Kingsley, but just not sure on Bell, his #'s are good right now, but who knows. Hope they all earn the award.
