Without the aid of modern equipment, workers offload cases of beer from an overturned Anheuser-Busch truck on Ramsey Mountain Sunday afternoon. The truck overturned when 25 pallets of beer shifted on a curve. No injuries were reported

Using legalization as an instrument, we show that issuing an on-premises liquor license is associated with 4 to 5 additional violent crimes per year. Reduced-form estimates suggest that legalizing the sale of alcohol to the general public for on-premises consumption is associated with a 10 to 25 percent increase in violent crime

Don't believe

So calls into question the rest of the stats.

I grew up in a dry county in Arkansas and the population in that particular county has contracted over the last 30 years, and I would suspect that would be the case with many rural dry counties.

Meanwhile, without looking it up, I'm going to guess that the populations of Dallas, Houston, Atlanta, etc etc. haven't contracted in the last 30 years.

Would like to see list of dry counties that have expanded their population.

Probably one dry county that went from a population of 50 to 1,000 and given equal weighting in order to skew the entire %.

We tried prohibition before. Didn't work out too well.

All of the other stats can be attributed to the same population discrepancy. More people in general = more crime across the board.

After living out of the Bible Belt for a few years, the thought of dry counties has become laughable to me. Not to mention this fact:

I can't believe its still like this. Not for not against. Marajuna is right around the corner and we still have dry counties.

I remember when I moved to Arkansas and had to have the "Member Cards" at resturants in Baxter County and Boone was still dry (2011). Then Boone County went wet and had 1 resturant and 1 liquor store. Then a few months later there were tons of liquor stores popping up.

Meh, that's extremely skewed by the fact that Benton County was dry until recently.

Yeah, in 2012, the dry counties would have included Benton County, the fastest growing in the state. They went wet and they're growing as fast or faster now than they were then.

don't need prohibition

just need wet and dry counties so the wet counties can keep the crime away from the dry counties. plus people deserve the choice to live in a wet or dry county

I live in a wet county and prefer it that way, but I completely agree with this, and it's why I was pretty vehemently opposed to the Arkansas Alcohol Beverage Amendment in last year's election which would've made the entire state wet.

Wet counties have a far higher percentage of football games played in them that I would actually watch.

I'm sure there's a good correlation between on-premises liquor licenses and stoplights, too.

The stats are skewed because most wet countries are ones with major cities where the majority of crime takes place while dry counties are more rural.

Correlation does not equal causation.

And Alcohol isn't the problem. Other countries have very low drinking ages but don't have the problems with binge drinking and driving/driving. They drink wine and beer with their meals as kids. Since they can have it any time it doesn't have the aura like here.
