Read today that CAT is closing their $140 Million road grader plant. The state gave them $3Million up front and no telling how much in tax abatements and credits.
Opened in 2010 with a promise of providing 600 jobs at an average of $21 an hour, 50 full time and 10 temp employees will lose their jobs. The plant never came anywhere close to delivering on those job promises and only employed 10% of the promised jobs.
5 years later they shut it down.
Our AG should sue to recoup funds and taxes. This corporate welfare shell game has to end. This is theft and fraud at its highest form preying on the desperation of politicians and communities to provide livelihoods for constituents.
Too often these sweetheart deals end with the company pulling out shortly after getting their cake.

You think Leslie Rutledge is going to sue a private company?
D-Mac might have gone after them, but Rutledge doesn't have close to the moxy, vision, or morals.

We got hosed on that one. Honestly, with the cheap land, low cost of living (so lower wages), and growing population we shouldn't have to bend over backwards to lure plants here.
Little Rock would be a great place to drop a major manufacturing facility.

We have a pretty undereducated workforce

The moving plants to Arkansas for all of the reasons listed above already happened in the 70's and 80's as rust belt companies fled the Unions.
Now thanks to NAFTA those same companies have fled to Mexico.

This plus land is cheap and always has Been. It's not like you'll see gains on it anytime soon.

here is the real issue. it's a national problem with manufacturing not a state.

Even Republicans?
Hahahahahaha
Right, I am sure all these billionaires supporting Clinton (and frequently paying her off) are doing so to take a brave stand against crony capitalism! They expect nothing at all beneficial to them from the govt.
Go look up where wall street contributions go and then feed me more bullshite about republicans being the party of the rich. Hell that ad the witch ran during the Olympics bragged about how big her jobs program is going to be. You think a foundation donor or two might make a little coin off that?
Hahahahahaha

I never said Republicans are the party of the rich.
I was referring to the Republican base that has been supportive of corporate tax breaks in the past. I think they are starting to realize that most corporations are working the system.
I just laugh when I hear the corporate tax rate is too high. What do you think would happen if the average citizen said his tax rate was too high and stopped paying it or found a way to get around it? The IRS would be all over his arse.
We need to start enforcing the laws that are on the books and stop catering to the corporations. Their only loyalty is to money so why should we be loyal to them.
