Sucks for the kid. Was having a decent training camp.

RICHMOND — Cornerback Tevin Mitchel suffered a torn labrum in his left shoulder and is expected to miss the entire season after having surgery to repair it, coach Jay Gruden said.

Meanwhile, running back Matt Jones, a fellow rookie, has a sore right knee and will be held out of Monday afternoon’s practice.

A sixth-round pick out of Arkansas, Mitchel injured his shoulder on Saturday, and didn’t practice on Sunday while having the shoulder evaluated. Gruden revealed the extent of the injury on Monday afternoon.

During the offseason leading up to his senior season, Mitchel had surgery to repair a torn labrum in his right shoulder. Mitchel returned to play in 11 games that season, recording 13 tackles and two interceptions.

Mitchel had a collection of veterans ahead of him, and likely would have seen only limited action on defense this season. But coaches like his potential.

“Tevin Mitchel, he’s a developmental guy for us,” defensive backs coach Perry Fewell said. “He has a very good skill set for us, but he has to learn how to think the game, how to understand the guy and how to play the pro game, but you like his skill set.”

AJ Derby also has been absent from Patriots practice since Thursday. No update from the Pats on him however. I would assume an injury there as well.

On the flip side, Arkansan Michael Dyer is turning heads for the Raiders and likely making the team.

Busted a 30 yard TD run in todays scrim.

Bad luck for Tevin but certainly something he can bounce back from if he will stay with it.

I would assume so since he hadn't practiced since Thursday or so.

When you get waived for an injury, does the NFL have medical coverage forthose guys to get fixed and rehab or are they left to Obamacare and prayer?
