The biggest obstacle to us winning the West thankfully left for Pitt a few months ago.

I've been rewatching games from last year on YouTube and watched the Texas Tech game last night. I spent most of the first two drives thinking "does Chaney have money on Texas Tech and the over?"

Seriously, a flea flicker in the first quarter, passes over the middle on 3rd and 3 when we're beasting on their D-line, and that reverse (my God, that reverse).

Your defense won't be as good as last year, lost too many stars. And your offense won't be able to compensate and keep up.

You lose 3-4 games. But have another good strong rebuilding season.

2016 will be a much better year for y'all. Will Allen have eligibility left? What year is he in?

Top to bottom, this might be the most uninformed post I've ever seen on our board.

Congrats.

He lost me here.

Our style of offense is a defensive player's dream.

And he said 2016 will be a much better year for us.

We lose our entire offense in 2016.

Watch any of our close games at the start of the season and notice how we would constantly get pass happy in the 2nd half compared to the first half and ultimately lose because of it.

Case in point - the A&M game. If we'd have taken the second half approach we did against Tech, we'd have won that game by 2 TDs.

When rewatching the Texas Tech game, Bert's comments going into the locker room were pretty telling about how he felt about Chaney's playcalling. He said something to the effect of "we have to quit fooling around and getting cute, no more playing around. We're going to come out and do what what we do best." Then we came out and beasted for 10 ypc in the second half. JWill is still running on that defense.

I was thinking the same... 2016 is probably going to be rough

I guess we'll see.

But like it or not I'm able to look at it more objectively than you.

So you think you'll win 10 or more?

Your defense shut out LSU and ole miss. 4 are gone, 3 to the NFL. Yet your saying the defense will be better than that?

Do you think it's possible that the 2015 defense has some NFL players as well?

A&M lost Ryan Tannehill to the NFL Draft after the 2011 season, so naturally ya'll sucked in 2012, right?

Our defensive depth will be a lot better.

And I'm pretty sure we had 4 players drafted off that defense

But we do return basically the entire secondary that locked everyone down the latter part of the year and bring back our 2nd leading tackler. We lost Chris Smith to the NFL after 2013 yet the DL got better. We bring back 8/10 of the two deep. The players know the system now and aren't learning on the fly.

Even if it's not top 10 again being top 30 or so would be enough to win most of the time with our experienced offense

We lost two starters on the D line, but we've recruited defensive linemen very well and it's the deepest position on the entire team.

The Will linebacker in Robb Smith's system is plug and play. Spaight wasn't an elite talent, he was a 3 star JUCO transfer.

Probably not as bad as you think as long as the O-line plays well.

The defense will not be "young" for a change.

The RB position is basically plug and play for Bert, big bruiser or speedy back, he has a place for them.

The biggest difference is there will be a veteran QB waiting who has been in the system 3-2 years at that point, either Austin Allen or Ty Storey, most likely.

The only time we've had a successor at the QB position in the past two decades, basically, was Mallett to Wilson, it turned out OK considering how bad Wilson looked outside of a half against Auburn's D (and who hasn't looked good against that) up to the point of him taking the starter job.

Agreed. At face value, next year looks to be a transition year, but when you peel back the layers of the onion, it actually looks pretty good, especially if any one of Collins, Henry, Skipper and Kirkland return.

Even if that's not the case, Bert has done an extremely impressive job of building depth through rebuilding the redshirt program, and his track record with both linemen and 1,000 yard backs is unparalleled. I put this in the recruiting thread, but Bert has never not had a 1,000 back:

quote:

His 1,000 rushers are below:

2006: P.J. Hill (1,569)
2007: P.J. Hill (1,212)
2008: P.J. Hill (1,161)
2009: John Clay (1,517)
2010: John Clay (1,012), James White (1,052)
2011: Montee Ball (1,923)
2012: Montee Ball (1,830)
2013: Alex Collins (1,026)
2014: Alex Collins (1,100), Jonathan Williams (1,190)

Additionally, he put multiple linemen in the NFL in his last three years at Wisconsin:

2011 - Gabe Carimi
2011 - John Moffitt
2011 - Bill Nagy
2012 - Peter Konz
2012 - Kevin Zeitler
2013 - Travis Frederick
2013 - Ricky Wagner
