I don't think there is a way to put a positive spin on this story. Despite what is being said by those trying to defend the Duggars when you get right down to it the kid is a sex offender and his family tried to cover it up.

The same family that tried to bus folks in from out of town to lobby the Fayetteville city council. The same family that a lot of folks who live up here will tell you operate like scam artists. The Duggars are trash.

Though that insults the perfectly good name of trash.

Gee maybe they should have taken him to a real counselor instead of some random state trooper who has no training or certification for counseling (who turned out to be a pedophile)

Too be fair he also saw a Pasteur who recited thousand year old text about not spilling your seed on the ground.

Not trying to put any kind of spin on the story... just wondering how many in this thread would have handled the same situation had it occurred in their own family any differently. It occurred 'in house', they took steps to correct it 'in house'. They did not ignore it or pretend it wasn't happening, which to me would have been much worse, and which unfortunately happens within more families than we probably know.

Not excusing what the kid did at all, but they did address it and sounds like corrected it. No, they didn't advertise it to the public when it happened, but how many of you would in the same situation if you thought you could correct it privately?

I don't think he was a random state trooper.
I guess that was just to give the boy a wake up call about the reality of what his behavior could cost him.
'Scared straight' approach.

I get what you're saying, but the other issue here is that he didn't seek out real treatment and they are huge hypocrites. I guess maybe they prayed the pedo away much like they pray the gay away. Those people remind me of the gypsy travelers.

Of course it wasn't a random trooper. It was a friend. If they would have gone to just any authority their kid would have had to actually take responsibility for his actions and so would the parents.

I think you hit on the main point in the whole story here. People just don't like the Duggars.

I don't like adults that put their image and religion above the well being of their children. Like I said.....pray the gay away and pray the pedo away.

You are talking about people who claim to be doing God's work while taxpayers pay to feed, cloth, and house their creations.

And you say they are hypocrites?

Something about teaching a man to fish.

They were on foodstamps and all the other government hand outs before the show, since the show is over, you know where they will be Tuesday? Re-enrolling...

I don't know if they were on food stamps or other government supplements, but I do know that they receive help, handouts, donations etc... just for being "them". I'm sure those weddings were covered by people who wanted to jump on the fame train. Welfare isn't exclusive to food stamps, WIC or SNAP, but at the same time I don't care about any assistance they received. While any parents that have children that they can't feed are irresponsible pieces of shite, the kids are innocent and need food. That's another topic, though.

Back on topic-they are paying the piper now. I feel for the girls. What transpired did nothing but instill in them the belief that what happened was insignificant, and the greater issue was that they forgive "like Jesus would".

Being a Christian I feel for those kids...

And this makes those who are Christians look like an occult or perverted society to those who aren't.

But let me be clear. Professional counseling was needed and most likely still is. Taking this in their own hands without proper training, counseling shows the arrogance and self preservation of their name. To me this is quite the story.

I pray to God that nothing like this every happens to my children from within or outside of my family, but if you think I wouldn't get the help needed regardless of my job, name, $$$$$ then you are nuts.

They have made $$$$ spouting virtues, and falling flat. I am not the one to throw stones, but this goes beyond the call of decency imo!

My issue isn't with the punishment wasn't strict enough for the boy. It is how they left an abuser ample opportunity to continue to abuse victims. That is essentially complicit behavior. How did the victims feel about this?

Oh and they deserve to be judged. They have certainly done (more than) their fair share of that

Everyone talking about "the boy".

What about the girls that are probably scarred for life and won't ever have a normal sexual relationship the rest of their lives?

Thats the stuff that pisses me off.

F that dude and his stupid parents, they should all be in jail, never to be seen again. Disgrace to the human race.

IIRC part of his platform when Jim Bob ran for Senate back in the early 2000s was making incest a capitol crime...
