So, are we doing better with recruiting under CBB?

This class will be viewed as a success if the Razorbacks sign Calloway, Curl and a junior college defensive lineman. Those additions would put the finishing touches on a class that almost certainly would finish in the top 25 nationally for a third straight year.
According to 247Sports’ composite rankings, Arkansas hasn’t had three consecutive classes finish in the top 25 in 15 years.

That sounds nice on paper and all. But on the field is where it matters, and it didn't look so nice this year.

Maybe the recruiting is better and the coaching is just not good?

His average class ranking is higher than Petrino or Nutt so, on paper, he's doing better.

He's getting better talent which is so frustrating with what we're seeing in development and on the field. Almost like LSU with miles just to a way lesser extent.

Part of the problem is our best recruiting streak for 3 years is still weaker than most of our divisions typical class.

I think the other part is an inability to get our top talent ready to be a major early impact. Our juco guys almost never work out year 1 so they're always at best a 1 year player.

This has had me/us perplexed for years. Top tier kids having good/decent college careers, going to NFL and then making huge impacts, followed by great careers.. Unfortunately, that points clearly to coaching and development, cause obviously, they have the talent, want to use it, but it wasn't utilized.
I kept looking past the obvious because I liked Miles the man so much, but, at the end of the day, the coach has to be judged on recruiting, developing and coaching..

Howdy Rev.

Yeah, averaging 10 wins a season for a decade must have been hard on you as a fan, it's clear you know how it feels to be a hog fan

10 wins means nothing in this conversation/thread, his post was about recruits, coaching and development, using LSU/Les as an example, my response was to his post. That's sorta how it's supposed to work, mental marvel.

You're right about 1 thing, I don't know how it is to be a hog fan. My response to this statement is this, I've been a LSU fan since the 50's, I'm pretty sure I've been involved with some LSU seasons like the hogs have gone through in the last few years with Bert, don't you think? I'd also bet that Ive watched your hogs more than you, sorta as a fan..Lol Take it easy.

Geauxt has a point, (howdy back at cha)...

Looking at Miles recruiting classes compared to results, kind of disappointment nonetheless.

However, back to my main point. CBB is doing better than the ones prior to him, is this enough? Should we expect better recruiting?

Is this on par? The results have sucked this year, we know etal...

I think the talent that he's getting right now may not be good enough to win an sec championship but It should be good enough for a 9 or if we get things to fall our way 10 games which then should cause the recruiting to go up a bit to where eventually we can compete for a title if that makes sense.

We were tied for like 3rd in the SEC in number of draft picks in 2015 and i think 5th in 2016 so i don't think we were significantly out-talented prior to this year, but us losing so many close games means we were just a decent FG kicker away from winning a lot more. I don't think that means our recruiting has been bad...if CBB had Hocker our perception of him could be completely different. It kinda all fell apart this year though.

I wish we had boosters that owned a Dodge dealership that would "help out" in recruiting

We get some SEC talent, it's just never deep enough.

We have very few, and I doubt if any this year, players that would start for Bama, LSU or probably even Auburn. Heck, it might be hard for any of our starters to make Bama's 2 deep this year.
That's about par for us.

That leaves us battling it out talent wise with Ole Miss and MSU most of the time.

I think if we win a little bit with the recruits we do get. We will be able to get better recruits I think. I mean clemson didn't become a top 10 recruiting team over night. Dabo had to overachieve at first a little and have a 10 win season with less talent at first

Clemson is also less than two hours from Atlanta. It always comes back to recruiting territory. We don't have it and the folks at the top programs do.

I agree with you to an extent but we're pretty close to Dallas and st.louis with the right coach who can turn these recruiting classes in the 20s into 9 or 10 win seasons eventually the will turn into top 15 classes. Now Idk if we could ever Crack top 10 bit top 15 is manageable and again with a top 15 class and the right coach a sec championship is possible imo

Both Nutt and Petrino had dismall recruiting classes after great years on the field.

Coincidence, laziness by coaching staffs, or myth that success on the field directly leads to success off in recruiting your call.

The best classes have been filled with sec level in state talent regardless of rankings as most of the players in Arkansas do not get the exposure or hype by the services, I'm sure the same is true for states with similar make up to Arkansas, outside of a few programs little effort is spent truly evaluating prospects. In this sense you pay a staff to find this type of talent of sec level talent who may not have the eye popping star numbers next to their name to bring to the hill. Recruiting rankings is one area Arkansas is never going to put Bama Bama or LSU or auburn or Georgia or Florida etc.

I'm just saying I think it's possible. I mean hell before Dabo did anybody think clemson was gonna win a natty? Or pull in 3 top rated qbs in the country? All it takes is the right guy.

Sure, I just think that the peak is around 15 and we are still going to be fighting an uphill battle with that.
