Should Jeff Long stay or go? A question for graduates and sidewalk fans.

I think that Jeff Long has done an outstanding job. He's turned the athletic department into a more professional outfit and eliminated the good 'ole boy network that leads to situations like the one Ole Miss is in.

I'm a graduate. Jeff Long has helped improve the image of the University and the value of my degrees.

How exactly does an Athletic Director improve the value of your degree?

Jeff Long hasn't done anything special that any common AD, with the money this conference brings in, couldn't do.

I want to apologize in advance if you're actually mentally disabled, because if so, then it's understandable.

If you're not, I suggest you practice reading comprehension and critical thinking.

The answer to your question is in the fricking sentence that your question originated from.

Offhand, I'm guessing you're not a graduate :)

Any real employer does not care about the image of an athletics program from where you graduated. If they do, they're fricking morons.

Hence, how has Jeff Long increased the value of your degree?

I hope you do more with your degree than tell everyone you have one.

1. We don't have sidewalk fans. Our sidewalks mean something at THE University of Arkansas. Fans are either alumni or non-alumni.

2. Just because you are non-alumni doesn't mean you don't matter. Donors and/or a season ticket holders are very important parts of our fanbase. The distinction should be between alumni/donors and non-contributors.

If the only "support" someone offers is bitching on a message board then their opinion really doesn't matter.

I am an alumnus. I like Jeff Long. I think he has done some things well here. He has also made some mistakes. My opinion is that I'd like him to stay BUT I won't be sad to see him go.

I'd like to have a former Razorback be our next AD. Maybe we can talk Terry Don Phillips to come out of retirement. Maybe Dave Van Horn can take over when he retires.

Before we began the stadium expansion we had the 2nd to lowest debt in conference. (See page/slide 6)

We are also one of the few schools who give money back to the university instead of taking.

I'm a sidewalk fan.

As in my name is etched on a sidewalk up there.

I still don't feel like that somehow makes my opinion more valid or legitimate.

FWIW, I'm pissed at Long, but not to the point that I want him gone. There's more that goes into being P5 AD than wins and losses, but dammit I want to start seeing a competitive football program again. We've had that before under him, so it's possible.

Has he? I'm a graduate. I don't feel like my degree is any more valuable because of what our athletics programs do.

Well how about we REALLY try for something special here. How about we hire an AD that shows integrity AND a simultaneous desire for winning. Or is Jeff and every other person that buys into his integrity nonsense insinuating that we're the only school that does things right? That the teams that WIN in this conference are doing it without integrity? I never get this. We're not win at all costs? So that means Alabama is, right, Jeff? Come out and say it, then. Come out and say, "Alabama lets in stupid criminals and pays players to get wins in football." Say it. Or just STFU and stop making excuses.

Jeff can GTFO.

I like Jeff Long. As you said, he's turned the athletic department into a much higher grossing, more profitable entity which is pretty much his job. Some hires haven't worked out, but Bret looked like a coup at the time and of course, Petrino.

After seeing some of the clown-show ADs from these other SEC schools and how Broyles ran things toward the end of his tenure, I am going to be very careful what I ask for when it comes to replacing the AD.

Jeff is one of the better ADs in the country.

People knock him for his hires but Petrino was a homerun hire. Sure we all knew he was a sleazeball but nobody had any inclination that he was a co-ed banging, motorcycle-wrecking tier sleazeball.

Before Harleygate our biggest fear was that someone would steal him away.

Prior to coming here, Bielema was incredibly successful. Yes it was in the Big 10 but nobody in the SEC or Big 12 with a similar track record was going to come here.

We could have somebody like Alleva or Bjork or whoever is at Missouri or Tennessee.

I'm currently an online Arkansas student, but have been a longtime distant fan of the athletics.

I did a lot of research on where to pay money for a masters degree. I chose Arkansas for a variety of reasons, the program, the cost, and I'm a huge sports fan, so throw the athletics in there too. I wanted to support a university that had name recognition, and Jeff Long is one of the few names that I have been very familiar with over the years. Take that for what its worth.

Which leads to the question... how are your classes going? I've heard some really good things about the college of engineering here.

That is the other thing I forgot to mention. Another reason that swayed me that direction was he level of support from the staff. Every question I had about the program was answered within 24 hours in detail, I've never had that type of support from either of my previous two schools that I have received from Arkansas.

I just finished my first two classes, and both have gone very well, and were actually far more in depth than I thought they would be.

Also, I was never hounded about attending, they weren't trying to sell me anything like a school such as Arkansas State would.

I’m not on the #fireLong bus like many others. I think he did a great job pulling Bobby and, honestly, getting Bielema st the time. He did it without anyone having any idea what was up unlike the embarrassing coaching searches we’ve seen before.

Posters want to forget this because it didn't work out. I have no issue with the heavy criticism for the buyout though.

he's done fine. I'm not willing to commit him to the history books. not ready to run him out of town over Bert. thought he leveraged that Petrino thing well. mike anderson turned things around although i was a doubter glad he proved me wrong.

the buyout in Berts contract is crazy. I also dont like the extension move. thought it was early.

Smith move wasn't great but i understand the decision atleast.
