too bad blubber blockhead is stuck to a system that isn't working.
A new offensive mind can do some things with this personnel.

I keep saying it. An RPO offense with Cole Kelly would be great. Oline still sucks, but RPO threat would take pressure off line.

Too lazy to paraphrase, so here's what I wrote in another thread.
Add in newcomers who are either sitting or shirting like Hammonds (provided he doesn't transfer), Barkley, Jackson, Warren, and Maleek Williams and that's a good nucleus of young skill talent to run an up tempo, RPO and/or spread to pass offense.

Exactly. We've got to transition to the spread, and we actually have the talent and recruiting footprint to compete with it.
If we bring in a decent spread coach, we could make some noise next year. We'll have some good pieces in Kelley, Whaley, Hayden, Nance, Martin, Jones, and the TEs. We also get most of the OL back, so it's not a complete rebuild on the line (insert joke about how they suck).
A coach who isn't a stupid, bumbling, lazy idiot could win 9 provided can he can fumigate the sorryass soft loser mentality and culture Bert and Herb have instilled.

We've got to come up with some kind of 'gimmick' or innovation offensively to compete. As bad as I wanted to believe CBB could get us to the point where we could just line up and play 'real American football', we just can't recruit enough hosses to do that. Never will be able to.

We have in the past, Bert just hasn't been able too.
If the recruiting strategy falls in line with Bert's week recruitment and evaluation on the lines, then the optimal solution now is to run a Texas based spread that gets the ball to the perimeter in space quickly hoping you can out score you opponent in games.
The read/option is the exact opposite of what we need as you need a good o line not just a perfect fit dual threat QB...

I think our recruiting base fits that of a Texas based spread.
Would love to get better on the lines and run an RPO system as well though.

I'm not convinced that system would win consistently in the sec as 6-8 teams can get the athletes needed to diminish the effectiveness.
The big12/acc yes, but mainly because they are not able to consistently beat out the sec teams for this talent, obviously they can beat the sec teams in a one game scenario such as season kickoff games and bowl games, but I'm not sure Sumlin is the reason aggy hasn't been able to pull it off thus far.*
Obviously if the trend of degradation of coaching continues in the SEC this could change fairly quickly as we saw with MIzzou a few years ago.
*this is assuming that 7-9 win seasons with the occasional 10+ when everything aligns in our favor isn't good enough, based off previous history with previous coaches here.

I’m not a fan of uptempo. I still think it’s important to give your D a break. None of those teams ever win anything of significance.

Neither will we. I am pretty sure Clemson did with an up tempo offense.
