SIAP - Stumbled upon this article on GridironNow (a site which I'm actually starting to kind of like) and figured it was worth a share. I like the "coaches speak anonymously" articles - though it really does make you wonder if these are HCs/coordinators/position coaches or if they're random quality control guys - because you don't get the inane coachspeak nonsense we've become accustomed to. Some interesting stuff in here as well as a few rustled jimmies.

LINK

quote:

“It’s Big Ten football at its best,” he said. “They’ve created something there that is kind of like the old Alabama Wishbone of days gone by, when Alabama was the only one running it. It makes it difficult to defend.

quote:

"They will always be tough. They will always be physical. That’s the nature of the head coach. They will have backs that will be productive behind that offensive line. When you’re committed to run the football the way they are, the play-action has been really good for them. They will pound, pound, pound, then throw the ball downfield. If their best back doesn’t get 1,000 yards, it ain’t because they don’t give it to him.

“They got away from it some last year because they had the best quarterback (Brandon Allen) in the league at running the pro-style, smash-mouth football. He was a pure thrower, got them in the right play and ran the show.

quote:

"They count on you getting guys close to the line of scrimmage, and then taking advantage of one-on-one matchups.”

quote:

"Their defense was down a little bit last year,” one coach said, “but they’ll do a better job protecting them because the offense will find a way to move the chains and burn the clock. They might not score every time, but they will shorten the game and make the defense better.”

And then this gem:

quote:

One coach isn’t high on Hogs coach Bret Bielema: “Arkansas is getting tired of Bielema’s bullshite. He hasn’t won over nine games. Houston (Nutt) won 10 and was a hell of a lot better person.”

I'm not sure this sentiment is as pervasive as this coach thinks. It certainly represents me, but I think most fans are still willing to give him time

I can understand the first part but you think Nutt was "a hell of a lot better person" than Bert. Don't agree with that in the slightest.

I just don't see how we could be anywhere close to firing Bert of we can't even all agree mike anderson should be fired.

It was Tim Horton.

According to a source as about as solid as one can be.

He's been in full bitch mode since not getting a shot "he deserved" as HC, to not getting backing by his and Gus's good friend in Greenwood in the recruitment of Morgan.

Horton was my first thought. It has to be someone from or who has spent significant time in Arkansas. No chance it was Malzahn, since they're talking up Nutt.

And it couldn't have been Chaney or Pittman, since I highly doubt either of them know Nutt.
