Rawleigh Williams and family to meet with UA coaches, doctors

FAYETTEVILLE — Tailback Rawleigh Williams and members of his family will huddle with the University of Arkansas, Fayetteville medical team and Coach Bret Bielema this week to go over his latest medical tests and discuss his future, a source with knowledge of the situation told the Arkansas Democrat-Gazette on Tuesday.

University officials expect to make an announcement on Williams’ status at some point next week, the source said.

Williams made “thud” contact with defensive end McTelvin Agim on a nontackling run play at left tackle, fell to the turf and said “I can’t move,” according to Agim.

Williams has undergone more medical testing since the Saturday incident, which UA officials said medical personnel described as a “stinger.” Williams had the feeling back in all of his extremities while he was on the turf and said he was “embarrassed” at not being allowed to jump to his feet.

Almost has a JWill feel to it. Wish him the best whatever the decision but regardless of our running back stable this would be a big loss for us if he can't return.

I visited Bishop Dunne High School on Tuesday to spend time with 2017 Arkansas cornerback signee Chevin Calloway. As part of my reporting, I interviewed Brian Williams. Brian is Rawleigh’s younger brother and a top 2019 recruit who already has received more than 20 scholarship offers, including one from the Razorbacks. At the end of an interview for a story about Calloway, I asked how Brian how his family was doing. “We’re taking it day by day,” Brian responded. “It’s a tough situation, but we’re getting better. Just, pray for us. Keep us in your prayers.”

Does Rawleigh have any chance at all to play in the league with his injury history? I almost want him to play it safe if he has zero chance.

I just think it would be tough for him to come back. There's always a risk of injury playing football but given the initial injury which was very serious and I believe many of us believed it was fortunate for him to be able to come back and play again, and now this one in a no/minimal contact practice game situation, I think it is just too dangerous for him to continue. He could very well end up paralyzed and it could be just a matter of time given the position he plays. And I know of no equipment he could use which could significantly lessen the risk of such an injury.

It's just flat out bad all the way around any way you view it but he's got to put his health first. I'm sure they'll get the best available information from the medical experts and make an assessment of what is best for him long term. That's about all you can do.

RW III clearly has a ton of heart and fight to come back from that neck injury, but man. Part of me really wants him to hang it up. Get a degree, become a GA, and get any job you want in the state.

The best scenario right here.

I wish him the best, but without any medical info to go by, I would hang the cleats up.

Football is a short career, he can do anything he wants in life right now, options get tougher with a permanent spinal injury.

Yes, do what's best for him. No one wants to see him hurt.

I hate if for the kid. Will they honor his scholarship if he has to hang it up?

Regardless of how folks feel about Bret as a coach, I have no doubt he's going to do everything in his power to set Rawleigh up as comfortably as possible for his future.

Bert has enough thinks to worry about, he doesn't need a witch hunt over this.

Great kid and a great RB but I'm leaning towards the hang it up camp. Neck injuries are nothing to mess around with.

Uh his brother currently is the most coveted prospect on our board for 2019 as the #1 Safety in the class. Bert isn't stupid enough to not honor his scholarship.

I'm fairly certain he's already honored a scholarship once here for someone who had a medical issue. RazorHawg would probably know who it was.

And he plays the position with the shortest lifespan. We're not talking about walking away from something he's going to be doing until he's 65. He's probably got until 30 at the latest - if he even gets drafted. Otherwise it's 22 or 23.

He's our best back, but he doesn't need to paralyze or kill himself. He especially doesn't need to risk life ruining injury for what's likely going to be a 7ish win season.

Alex Brignoni was put on a medical hardship scholarship early on.

I think Beanum is still on scholarship via medical hardship.

Medical hardships, when a player steps away from the game, don't count against the 85. It's the one thing the NCAA does right.

Bitch all you want about Berts win_loss ratio or just bad losses in general but he definitely takes care of his players and assistants to the best of his ability
