Interesting. Look forward to reading more about him and his recruiting areas. I'm on board with a guy that has been a recruiting coordinator as long as he has. There HAVE to be some relationships that'll benefit us.

More than they did Kansas, hopefully.

I'll need to do some more reading on him but it's not moving the needle for me at this point. I know he was a good recruiter back at Illinois but that was 8 or so years ago. Times have changed and he has been buried at Kansas. I would have preferred someone a little younger myself.
Trust in Bielema though and hope this works out.

Something more interesting than the hire is that reverend predicted the hire days ago. Could this mean someone finally has a source for coaching changes?

It definitely leaked somewhere along the way because all of the pay boards were reporting him two days ago. Hopefully Rev is in that circle.
Could we get a Michael Smith update from you now Rev?

I guess at Arkansas we have to coach up our coaches, too.

What sticks out about Mitchell is his familiarity with current Razorback OC Dan Enos. The two have recruited from the same areas in the past and Mitchell has had to game plan for Enos while coaching up the defensive side of the ball at Minnesota as the d-line coach(1988-1990) during Enos’ tenure as a quarterback for the Spartans(1987-1990).
Bingo
Bingo

He seems to have a good recruiting pedigree which had been lacking with the previous two coaches.

They seem displeased.
Most of them, anyway. I take that as a good sign. A lot of comments that talked about RB being a position they've actually performed well despite being terrible.

From the KU board.
I'm just going to leave this here:
"Earlier this week, Mitchell was honored by Rivals.com as one of the top-10 recruiters in the Big 12. Mitchell was the only member of KU’s staff on the list, and the website touted his reputation and ability to steer the two big targets to Kansas.
This is not the first time Mitchell received such an honor. In 2006, Rivals.com tapped him as one of the 20 best recruiters in the nation. A year later, he was named to Rivals’ list of the top five recruiters in the Big Ten. What’s more, Illinois’ recruiting classes ranked in the top 35 nationally during three of Mitchell’s five seasons as the Illini’s recruiting coordinator. That includes 2007, when UI’s class ranked 20th and included two five-star players and five four-star guys. A year later, the Illini ranked 23rd in the country, with six four-star prospects.
Mitchell surfaced in the Big Ten after spending nine seasons (1988-96) at KU with former Jayhawk coach Glen Mason. From there, he spent two years at Minnesota (1997-98), six years at Michigan State (1999-2004) and five at Illinois (2005-09).
It was there that the Flint, Mich., native established himself as one of the top recruiters in the country, bringing to Michigan State such big-name prospects as wide receiver Charles Rogers, the former No. 2 overall pick of the Detroit Lions, running back T.J. Duckett, who also was a first-round draft pick, and former all-pro wide receiver Plaxico Burress.
At Illinois, Mitchell helped land running back Rashard Mendenhall, the current Pittsburgh Steelers starter, who, in 2007, set Illinois school records for rushing yards and touchdowns on his way to becoming a first-round pick."

Kansas people on the board were discussing how he was the best at getting kids from the KC metro area to kansas. I like the idea of connections there. He also seems like he's had success at schools not named kansas. i like that he's a college coach who has connections to places.
I don't know that he'll be great or not but seems like a solid place to start rather than another NFL guy who needs to learn to recruit. Guess the question is whether or not he can replace pittman as our offensive talent closer.

From the link above:

Reggie Mitchell was one of the only bright spots on this staff over the past 6 years. He was a fantastic recruiter.
No amount of sunshine pumping will take the sting off this one.
quote:
This is a huge loss. Reggie was a fantastic recruiter and was able to bring in alot of talent at RB despite our poor on-field performances. He also was great at developing talent. He turned the RB position into one of our greatest strengths through some of the darkest times in KU football. I wish Reggie the best at Arkansas. The Razorbacks got one helluva coach and he will be sorely missed here in Lawrence.
quote:
You don't recruit big time talent to KU in football. You recruit diamonds in the rough, and that's why he was is widely though of and respected. Coaches and Rivals/Scout types know that you don't just walk in and recruit 3 and 4 star guys with a Jayhawk on your shirt. Instead, you have to grind, build relationships and use those relationships to sign guys that were either overlooked or there wasn't room for by big-time programs. Reggie was great at this and great at it in Big 12 territories.
And if an SEC school wants a KU Football coach? That just shows how good he is.

That's actually an excellent point.
