Springdale just suffers because it is the poorest most blue-collar city of the four big ones.

Also their crime seems higher. It would still be one of the nicer cities in a few states that Arkansas touches.

No kidding. The square has a ton of great non-chain restaurants, and it seems like a new one is opening around town all the time.

Truth. A lot more businesses are about to open up around here. I'm not sure if I'm happy about it, considering the traffic it will no doubt bring along with it.

Some parts of the state are only going to get a lot bigger. Our wages might be lower, but our cost of living is a lot lower then most places.

If you are a young couple you can come here and live well in a growing and active community instead of having to live in an overgrown closet in places like New York or California.

Not to mention that these towns that are growing have wonderful scenery for the most part.

Yeah at this point they'd pretty much have to double my salary and give me a four year contract guaranteed to make me move back to DFW. It is very easy to live around here. I'm sitting in the middle of Fayetteville with my french doors open, front door open and a breeze blowing through the house as I type.

It is nice and peaceful.

I keep reading about all of these corporate relocations to DFW and it just makes me cringe. Where are they going to put all of the new people?

I really hope growth here stays where it is or slows down some. I know its still small town around here, but I've noticed some of the growing pains lately and I don't like it.

What if I grew up there? Can I come back in that case?

Given the thread title I thought this was going to be another thread about the Duggars.

As for all the aforementioned places I'd say Bentonville is trending best.

I moved to Bella Vista in '08, I would like to see it grow a little more. But I do like how the surrounding cities downtowns are springing up. Have my oldest son enrolling into U of A in August, now if I can just ever get a chance to spend some time at my house everything would be great. I travel for my work so I only get about 24 weeks a year at home...

Bentonville is trending the best because the Waltons have finally decided to make it into something really special.

Still, Fayetteville is getting a 30 million dollar expansion/renovation of its performing arts center. That's not bad for a city "getting the short end of the stick" according to many people around here.

Yeah. I love the uproar about the WAC moving up to Bentonville and the AMP and how badly Fayetteville is getting screwed because the Waltons and Walton benefactors are turning their philanthropy elsewhere. Hundreds of posts on the Flyer about it. Then when donations come in from the WFF or from other Wal-Mart inner circle to sustain the WAC in Fayetteville, there's nary a comment on the article. Crickets.

I love Fayetteville and have been a pretty big part of its counterculture and protest culture in the past, but it's not hard to see why people might want to put their money into more appreciative and needy communities.

There's also a willingness to "play ball" with the regional vision of the Northwest Council and Walton Family Foundation from the other burbs (Rogers and Springdale) that is absent in Fayetteville citizenry and leadership. They all WANT to develop a synergy and a regional vision, but Fayetteville is pretty stubbornly resistant (which is probably because most Fayetteville citizens see regional growth as a detractor from the Fayetteville as the cultural hub of NWA).

Also, Bentonville is SO much better at publicity and social media. When they have something going on up in Bentonville, it's blasted through all the networks and the various Bentonville social media affiliates. They also tap into the national publications. Fayetteville has the Flyer, and that's pretty much it.

Enjoy that.

Springdale is about a 1/2 century behind Fayetteville, 25 behind Bentonville and 10 behind Rodgers.

You could not pay me to live there.

I wouldn't move there, either, at this point.

You're right that they're very behind, but sometimes that creates its own opportunity. There is definitely a progressive contingent (Team Springdale) who are trying to revitalize downtown Springdale and do some cool things there. They've got the Taco Tour. They just held the Spring Little Craft Show there last weekend. They've got Fairlane Station there, which is a pretty good venue for weddings and could become a venue for more events as well. Warehouse 54 was an ambitious project that died out, unfortunately. We'll see, they're moving in the right direction.

Downtown Springdale is similar to southside Fayetteville in that property is cheap and it's more diverse culturally than other areas. This provides a perfect incubator for a certain type of creative class, who are definitely moving in. For example, my friends who just moved back here from Portland, OR said they felt more comfortable either on Southside Fayetteville or Springdale than the "nice" neighborhoods in Fayetteville we suggested because they wanted a more diverse and eclectic community, similar to what they experienced in Portland.

That doesn't change the fact that the city lacks a lot of amenities of the other NWA cities, but it also possesses an appeal and unique identity lacking in the others as well.

Comments on Flyer articles are atrocious. I cannot believe the stupid shite posted on there

People worried about the Neighborhood market on MLK and ruining the "culture of the neighborhood". Lol anyone who has ever been by there knows anything being built would be a huge improvement over the trailers and empty businesses

I totally agree that the anti-WalMart stuff is ludicrous as are the Flyer's comments at times.

I do wish that Wal-Mart would have chosen that store proposal to do something innovative and interesting (like they're doing up on the Bentonville square) with their concept rather than just running with their base Market footprint design. Still, having a store in that location is going to be a great win for the liveability of the area.

100% agree with all this. There is a shite ton of campus housing down there that it will be huge for as well.

I don't care what anyone says, neighborhood markets are great and I miss the one in East Fayetteville with all my heart.

I also agree that Walmart dropped the ball on that one. That area was getting pretty cool on its own.

They didn't have to demand a standard store there. It was disappointing that they insisted on one.

A new NM is an improvement over what is there right now, with just a little tweaking and a slightly larger investments, Walmart could have done something to add to the cooler stuff happening nearby. They completely ignored the context and treated Fayetteville like anytown anywhere and that pissed me off.

To be fair, you can buy liquor on Sundays in Springdale. Fayetteville can't boast that.

I meant to include that in my changing face of Springdale post above.

I've made an embarassing number of Sunday trips up to the Macadoodle's at Elm Springs since Sdale got Sunday liquor sales

That's also cut into Fayetteville's craft brewer sales, because I used to get Sunday growler fills. Now I just head north.
