Well I must say after spending a couple of days in Fayetteville, the northwest Arkansas region is probably one of the most hidden gems of the entire country. I'm describing it to people back east by saying it's an Athens and two Spartanburg South Carolina's. Downtown Fayetteville isn't quite as big as Athens, but the region was bigger, and has just about everything you could need. Even Columbia, SC doesn't have a Cabelas. I checked out Devils Den, Sassys, Fossil, Ozark, and a little breakfast joint called the breakfast bar. All of my other meals were provided on campus.

Fayetteville is definitely the closest to Athens culturally in the SEC, imo.

It is a unique area. The economy is strong, the cost of living is low, the population is booming, its not too liberal and not too conservative, the area feels like a small town with all the things you'd want from a big city.

I think you will like the area even more when you live here a bit longer and find everything. Having been to Athens I agree the two areas are very similar but with the greater NW Arkansas area being larger.

I'm white and I'm offended. LOL.
I know good bbq.
I agree that most folks in NWA don't know shite about bbq.
If they are offended, well, tough.

whole hog cafe makes half arse eatable BBQ pork sammaches. the only thing i don't like about sims is that they don't make a true BBQ pork they give you BBQ and bread and you got to create-your-own sammach

I'm white and I know good bbq. Everyone knows NW AT BBQ sucks. Now that you have given out that you aren't white, it's even funnier that you do meth cause now you are just a statistic. Congrats on being a stereotype.

Sims is good for ribs as they use a mustard based sauce and you'll want to get several slices of bread to go with them. Might want to get a forty as well. I still think there are about three locations and it certainly wouldn't hurt to be well armed when you frequent whichever location you choose (a .45 to go with your 40). I used to hit the one off Roosevelt near Downtown for lunch--a good number of professional people go there.

In Central Arkansas make sure you get by both McClards and Stubbys in Hot Springs as those are a couple of my favorites.

Just cross the border near Ft Smith and head toward Sallisaw... You'll find the best barbecue in the region, Wildhorse Mt BBQ

There is a better BBQ place in sallisaw as well but I'm not sure if they're even open anymore and even when they were it was still a bitch. North of town a couple miles white metal building on the right. Has one little sign.

Foods amazing they stay open open until they sellout which they do daily when open.

Wild horse or pink flamingo in the fort are the best you can regularly get.

The BBQ is weak here. I prefer penguin Ed's, then whole hog. Overall, the food scene here isn't very impressive. But I've never tried Wright's. I see they're open until 9pm tomorrow. I may have to try it for breakfast (damn nightshift).

If you hit Wright's, be careful driving in Johnson. The cops are notorious pricks and the speed limit is 25-30.

And is skip devil's den, and go to the Buffalo River. Hit the Goat if you're down for a hike. Otherwise, check out Steele Creek or Kyle's Landing. That's the most beautiful area I've seen in between the Appalachians and the Rockies. The best view of the Ozarks I've seen is White Rock. Frog Bayou also has some great camp spots if you have 4x4.

Off topic, but has anyone ever been to Sarita's tacos? Their burritos are great. Especially the carne asada. Los Bobos has the best tacos, but they have weird hours, and I don't go downtown often (even just for a meal, since the parking situation sucks). And anyone who goes to Taco Bell Cantina, deserves to be bitch slapped.

You been to Petit and Keet yet? It's been packed both times I've gone. Pretty good, but not worth the trek out to Oklahoma.

NWA idea of good BBQ is getting a McRib, bag of Lays BBQ chips and wash it down with a Diet Coke

Is there a food blog(s) detailing NWA that's good? I know here in Little Rock there's been quite a bit of a restaurant growth, but I think a lot of that has been brought about by a few good places putting out good food people and there being a real excitement about it (good graphic design and instagram shots go a long way to keeping places in business, I tell you what.)

There's nothing as good as Rock City Eats.

There's NWA Eats, which is as close as it gets. It's not bad. The Fayetteville Flyer covers restaurant openings/closings in Fayetteville, but they don't do reviews.

Fayetteville food scene kind of sucks (and I'm speaking as someone who prefers Fayetteville to Bentonville culturally). Bentonville food scene is blowing up, though a lot of their restaurants are similar (Mod, Oven and Tap, and Preacher's son are near interchangeable.. but all excellent).
