Any info is appreciated.

Also, is Devils Den worth a visit?

Thanks!

Most will say Herman's, which is pretty decent. It depends. I like Whole Hog's chicken, and Sassy's is good and has a great deck.

The best brisket in town is at Wright's BBQ truck, and I think they are opening a new permanent spot in Johnson soon.

Devil's Den is worth the drive if you want a hike and to see some crevasses. It's only 20-25 minutes out of Fayetteville. I'd recommend hitting the Yellow Rock Trailhead which is closest to Fayetteville. In 30 minutes after leaving your front door, you can be here.

Devils Den is worth the side trip especially in the fall. My bbq preferences are Whole Hog, Lucky Luke's and Penguin Eds. Sassys Red House is also good with a great patio and full bar.

Thanks guys. I'll be within walking distance of Sassy's, so I'll throw that on the list.

Devils Den will definitely be on my list as well.

Bbq in Fayetteville is pretty weak. I like sassys the best but its the smartest kid on shortbus scenario for sure

FYI: here are two Sassy's locations now. One with good deck is on college not Wedington.

Try Whole Hog Cafe, which has several locations, including one in Fayetteville. LINK

One of the current things they have which I really like is a rib meat sandwich.

There is no good BBQ in Fayetteville. Gotta get south or east of Little Rock.

Fayetteville BBQ isn't exactly awesome as others have said (but BBQ is kind of like sex in that none of it is truly bad, imo). We like Penguin Ed's because my wife is a vegetarian, and they have a portobello sandwich. Their ribs are awful, though because he leaves the membrane on.

Whole Hog is consistent. The BBQ Place outside of town isn't bad. Sassy's has good atmosphere and a full bar, but their food has a very Sysco Pub feel to it (frozen food heated up). Herman's is a classic but is pricey and more of an old school steakhouse along the lines of Doe's than a true BBQ joint. Lucky Luke's has a sandwich I love (The Mennecke), but doesn't really stand out. I don't know, all the places are good, and none of them really rise above the others as great.

The truly best BBQ is probably in some of the food trucks like Wrights or Tyler's Craft BBQ, which aren't the same as sitting down at a restaurant.

Wright's gives me the feels of Franklin BBQ in Austin. The brisket is incredible.

I'd love to see them put a permanent location in, maybe somewhere midtown.

You're probably at Wedington in one of the hotels. This is the new Sassy's and not the one with the deck.

There's another BBQ join a block away called Boar's Nest. Their brisket is pretty good, and they do great smoked wings.

Best answer. I'll probably try to find a food truck while in town as a couple have said that is the best bbq. The frozen food comment for sassy' s sounds awful. I will give everyone a hint though. I had a friend who worked at a pricey restaurant, and said most of the food was heated in a microwave before serving out of a fridge. It got cooked there, but basically everyone was spending $40 for left overs. This probably happens at a lot of places.

Oh. It's true that Sysco food is everywhere in restaurants, and even fancy fine dining ones. That being said, sports bar type places seem go above and beyond on the shite. They have 10000 menu items, and you can just tell that they're all ordered from some food vendor, heated up, then "spiced up" with some other sauces and shite that were also ordered from a food vendor.

Too true. Some places that have the best food are the last place you'd think to try. The best fried chicken by a mile where I live now is... the dirt cheap fried chicken one of the local grocery stores cooks up in their low budget deli.

The best catfish? At a local burger joint. The best steaks? Family owned Italian place that just happens to cook a great steak.

I remember a while back on vacation down to Destin, Florida we ate at seafood restaurants all the time. The best one and the one the locals all said to go to? Red Lobster.

Well I must say after spending a couple of days in Fayetteville, the northwest Arkansas region is probably one of the most hidden gems of the entire country. I'm describing it to people back east by saying it's an Athens and two Spartanburg South Carolina's. Downtown Fayetteville isn't quite as big as Athens, but the region was bigger, and has just about everything you could need. Even Columbia, SC doesn't have a Cabelas. I checked out Devils Den, Sassys, Fossil, Ozark, and a little breakfast joint called the breakfast bar. All of my other meals were provided on campus.

Fayetteville is definitely the closest to Athens culturally in the SEC, imo.

How did you feel about sassy's?

Like I said I'm not always up in the area, and I've only eaten at a few places. Cafe rue Orleans was good.

I had the brisket and pork, it was very good, they definitely make a great rub, not the best of either I've ever had, but I'd eat there again for sure. I guess they are known for their bake potato salad, which was awesome.
