Arkansas hosted FAMU in the Arkansas Class 2A title game last night, or so it seemed since all of Hampton, AR decided to make the trip and fill 3/4 of the stadium last night.

Austin Allen needs to find open WRs or he is going to get killed. There is a smidgen of blame for the Oline, but last nights woes mainly fall on Allen. Hey Bert...It MAY NOT be a good idea to be sitting this kid out in practice. No, he doesn't look that good. Seriously. Practice him. Out of all the facets of the game last night, QB looks to need the most work. Jordan Jones is still wide open in the end zone, right now and you still have not thrown him the ball. Oh look, you're on your back because you held the ball for 20 minutes. Hey Cole Kelley...that FAMU DB called and he wants his toof back.

Was it just me or did the Oline look pretty good minus the first series or two? Even in those, holes were wide enough for 8 Berts to walk through. Hey Chase Hayden, DMac called....he is going to want all his records back in 3 years...David Williams, Muschamp called and said he has rethought things and found room for you in his backfield.

Starting RG is no place for a true freshman walk on in the SEC...next...

3-4 seemed more like 3-20 last night...Guys flying around the ball...Scoota...you're a fast bastard. You move side to side like Apolo Ohno...good lord kid. Pulley...thanks for playing. If you have the same injury as KRich, we will see you next year. Kam Curl, you look the part...thats for sure.

Is kicking into the end zone a new thing? I feel like Ive never seen it before. Weird how a team decides not to return the ball when it flies into the end zone. Its like one end zone had a vacuum and the other had a blower. Odd. Maybe its because he kicked with the wrong foot.

Bert's head takes up the entire screen on my 65" tv...

I still can't believe that our fans leave before the game is over...I mean, it wasnt even the opening kick yet and folks were heading to the exits...

I thought the positives last night way out weigh the negatives. USCe kept telling us how poor DWill vision is, but I couldn't help thinking last night that maybe a solid Oline could light a fire under his career.

Like you I was very pleased with the D. I know it was a high school team, but we took care of business like we haven't in a long time.

I feel like the boys will be amped to play TCU in Fayetteville. Place oughta be a mad house unlike the crickets in LR last night.

If AA doesn't get his shite together along with Colton Jackson, TCU will win by 3 scores

Yep. Even the crap teams moved the ball all over us last year so this was very encouraging to see.

I'm pretty sure Alcorn St had over 300 yards on us last year.

My observation from last night and the thing that made me most happy. We looked like we really didn't want to be there, but delivered a curb stomping.

Yes, it was against lowly FAMU, who is not only an FCS team, but a pretty lousy FCS team. Nonetheless, in the past couple of years if we were playing that flat they'd have hung around until late in the 3rd and possibly into the 4th.

I was impressed by the defense last night. Last year we looked slow and confused. This year we looked fast and aggressive. We will stumble along the way, the West is loaded with offenses and we draw the two best offensive squads from the East, but I'm hopeful we will be more competitive. Losing Pulley could complicate things a lot though.

Brooks Ellis drew a lot of criticism last year for his play but I have to wonder how much of that was the plays not coming in from the sideline in time and Robb Smith's bizarre tendency to leave the middle of the field mostly undefended. I think Ellis would have done much better in the system that Rhoades is running now.

When we did blitz we disguised it a lot better then we've done in the past.

There only seemed to be small handful of missed tackles last night, as opposed to the dozens per game we've been having of late. The key to defending up tempo teams is to play solid basic football and wrap up on your tackles so this was a great thing to see.

And as suspected we were very vanilla not to show anything to TCU.

There's literally nothing to learn from a game like that. Our second string would be more competitive.

That said:

Defense didn't stink the place up, and they probably would have last year.

If we lost Pulley...it'll hurt.

Passing game isn't there yet, in any facet. Protection was sub-par, progression was bad and the WRs corp needs a leader (may change when JCorn is really back).

Running game looked pretty good, but see the intro. That wasn't an SEC D-Line we were pushing around. Still...Hayden can play, Hammonds looks dangerous and Whaley and Williams can pound it.

Those endzone kickoffs....maybe Havey had something to do with the difference :).

I'd also like to call out Kendrick Jackson. He did a hell of a job lead blocking in the run game last night, and also did a pretty job of blitz pickup and pass pro on play action out of 21 and 22 personnel.

As bad as Allen looked, I'm worried about WR speed and the lack of ability to get open. I know Allen missed a few passes, but the receivers weren't exactly wide open on a few either.

He was wide open on a post route for a sure TD in the first half. Allen just didn't see him.

We also didn't attempt any deep balls (unless I'm forgetting 1 or 2), so a lot of that may have been intentional.

really only took one negative from the entire game. and that is our WR's ion general outside of Jcorn, can't create separation.

Allen shouldn't have to be checking down to his fricking third option against FAMU.

Hopefully he was coached to go through all his reads last night. I heard Enos on Bo Mattingly yesterday and he didn't sound very frustrated with receiver progression of the new guys. I think he likes Jones a lot!

I disagree, look at our last few cupcakes in LR for reference. I'm about 99% sure CBB isn't a fan of playing in War Memorial and it's shown in his team previous years, regardless of opponent. I was worried the game last night would be uncomfortably close considering our recent history in LR, the weather, the lack of fans due to the weather, Thursday night, etc.

There IS something to learn, and that is that we finally did what we were supposed to do against a cupcake in LR. Our D also struggled against these lowly teams in previous years and they were fantastic last night. I'll reserve judgement on the 3-4 and DC switches being a success for now, regardless there was definite improvement.

We've gone on to some decent wins after shitty performances in LR, I'm hoping the rest of the season works the same way but exponentially better like our opener.

True, however there are other variables. How does FAMU compare to the other teams we have played in Little Rock? Are they even a few steps below those.

This part isn't directed directly at Razorbroncs.

But there are so many variables, I wish I had my wife's mathematical and analytical mind

Level of competition, change in D Scheme, New WR's, so many things... then the weather, FB tribute, lack of fan interest, at WMS, on and one.

One things is for sure from my perspective, AA must be infinitely better and quickly in order for us to have a relatively successful season. Weather it was the Oline as some claim, lack of elite receivers, or him... or even the package installed for this game being vanilla. who knows..

Fun to discuss though
