How are the opening and regional games relevant to the tournament? It's only 8 teams that compete for the championship regardless, so what's the relevance of the other games?

It allows you to squeeze in more games on the schedule over the NCAA max w/o tourney to the max with tourney.
The other teams compete in a tournament in N. Carolina (IIRC).
If this team puts out any want and effort, Cal will be very beatable.

Nice, thanks. I agree, I think we can compete with Cal and make a decent run as long as we don't have a horrible scoring drought like we did tonight.

I think we can handle cal, and cuse isn't the same team they were last year. I fear what Little Dick and the Gophers could do to us though. Elliot Eliason could eat Portis lunch inside.

Baylor and Cuse are the only other teams that will be on the island that I've seen.
Not impressed with either, or they are beatable.
Michigan St has been the best team I've seen so far this year.

I haven't seen them play.
They looked dominate last year until, like usual, the tournament started and they were exposed.
I haven't payed attention to the top25 rankings either, watching Baylor play and seeing that they were ranked, told me to wait until mid-January before checking them out...

Man. Jealous. I'd be excited as hell to have Mizzou playing in that tournament. All solid, yet beatable teams. Wins can go a long way toward helping make the tourney and losses won't kill ya toward making the tourney.

Don't know about Cal. They're 4-0, but the teams they played are a combined 1-13. Oakland is the only team that they've played that has been decent in recent years.

I think when I looked Cal up most sites had them 3rd/4th/5th in the PAC and I think they all had them making the NCAAT.

Oak was down two players for that game as well, a starter and what looks like a first-option bench guy. the article said Cal struggled when Oak slowed down the pace, which was a little alarming..

That's the important part. We need to beat teams that will make the NCAAT away from BWA to put together a good enough resume to get int he tourney ourselves this year.
