Need more African American Athletic directors

"There was a time when I wouldn't give [Broyles] the spit if he was dying," Richardson said. "That anger. When you've got that kind of an anger in you, it takes away from living because you're so angry."

"When you have 90 percent of white ADs making decisions, what do you expect?" Richardson said. "In order to reach things, you have to get started at the top. You can't be down here at the bottom asking this guy down here to help me when the man at the top is calling the shots. We've got to get to the top. We've gotta get some more involvement."

So would we say Jeff Long is in the 10% of white A.D.'s that no longer make decisions?

If you don't agree with Nolan, you're just racist.

If one race wants to remove another race, to advance their own race, is racist to me, white or black.

Oh good, now I can finally sleep at night now that Nolan isn't mad anymore. It's been a rough decade + for me.

Meh, that is picking two bits out of a good sized piece that was mostly about how Nolan has settled down and put his anger behind him.

Every time I've bumped into him Richardson has been pleasant and happy to pose for pictures or sign autographs if anyone wanted them.

Yes, he and Broyles detested one another(and probably still do to an extent). Well for all the good he has done we all know Broyles could be a real asshat to his coaches. They both deserve a heaping share of the blame for how things went down and I think they both realize that now.

Nolan's retired and like most of us he's moved on.

100% correct. I'm sorry to say but if you think other people are racist against you it's most likely because you are racist yourself. I like Nolan but the man is racist. he would have preferred a black man be his ad over a white man. it's as simple as that but it's racist and our fricked up society can't see that.

Don't get me wrong, I love Nolan and everything thing about who he is, the good and the bad.

Everybody has their issues, mine just happen to be that I'm too white, too rich, and too damn good looking.

Wait...

Nope I'm a

It doesn't bother me that he's that way, most people are in one way or another, even all of the hippy SJW out there.

edit: Did some checking on the Black AD thing and found this study by UCF

Whites held the overwhelming percentage of positions of athletics directors in all three divisions during the 2011-12 year at 89 percent

So the other 11% were minorities, and AA make up what, 13% of our population. So its below avg.

The Study

it really doesn't bother me with nolan either. i have zero doubt that nolan experienced major racism in his lifetime. he's in his mid 70's right- yeah, he dealt with it and made a success of himself despite of it and we got to enjoy quite a bit of that success as well.

Just a thought... if he is over it, moved on, why bring it up constantly...

Geesh, this keeps getting older by the Nolan.

Who cares what he thinks or how he feels. He lost my respect long ago when he began to blame everyone but himself for his shortcomings. He needs to just go away.

Damn shame,I was a huge supporter of him when he was hired and Frank was the one that HIRED him.Frank stood behind him when he struggled early on and when his daughter was ill before she passed away.Nolan has a selective memory and I no longer have any use for him.

But what do I know,I guess I'm just a redneck, turd and a-hole as he called us...

I agree with this. He grew up during a rough time for blacks. It was no doubt tougher on him then , than it is for minorities now. Its easier to understand where he is as a 70 yr oold than when I hear a 20 yr old screaming racism.

The fact of the matter is, this is America and it doesnt matter what race you are. Nolan proved that himself, and that makes this country great. Dont feel sorry for yourself over things you have no control over, overcome and make your own way

He's not the one bringing it up and asking about it.

He is trying to bring closure to the situation, something Frank has never had time to do.

Nolan was right about several of his issues with Frank, he did see discrimination and a different set of criteria for job performance reviews from Frank and the big money boosters.

Many have overlooked at the time of his melt down he was looking at several penalties for NCAA infractions he had nothing to do with (again after the NCAA witch hunt in 1996), so he already felt the NCAA was out for him. Nutt's program opened the investigation with their infractions, John McDonnell's program allowed the NCAA to use the lack of institutional control for stiffer penalties with his program's infractions.

Nolan was losing scholarships and receiving recruiting sanctions and being told by Frank that he would be given no slack for a decline in performance, while Nutt gets a two year free pass and a new contract after his program committed the infractions. Yeah, that sound fair to me.

However, the favoritism and discrimination he saw wasn't based primarily on the color of his skin.

Frank and the old money were a little to liberal with their use of 1940s labels for folks around the AD.
