"Sen. Bart Hester, R-Cave Springs, filed Senate Bill 202 in reaction to Fayetteville’s contentions Civil Rights Administration Ordinance"

“LGBT Arkansans currently have no state or municipal level protections in housing, workplace, or public accommodations,” said Johnson. “It remains perfectly legal under Arkansas law to fire LGBT people from their jobs, refuse to rent to them, or to kick them out of a restaurant or hotel. Senate Bill 202 ensures this form of discrimination in Arkansas will remain the law of the land.”

I'll happily erect a rainbow flag on my projects and welcome these people with open arms if this passes. This is the part of the GOP I cannot stand. For the record, I wasn't in favor of the Fayetteville City Ordinance because the writing was awful yet protection is needed.

Also, I'm sure that worldview from Cave Springs will help grow business in Arkansas.

Remove the word LGBT and I'm fine with this statement.

On performance based issues, conduct, guidelines and minimum acceptance criteria related to the work/living environment, I agree.

Not honoring a contract because of someone else's personal choice shows a huge flaw in a person's character, in my opinion.

IMO, Fayetteville is the last town that needs this "protection" law. Fayetteville is the most liberal, tolerant town in the entire state. To say that LGBT are mistreated here or treated poorly is obviously bullshite.

I think it's more about recognizing the lack of federal protections that are extended to lots of other groups of people and doing something at the local level to correct it for the people in your community.

"It's not really a problem here" is a bad reason to neglect extending protections. Why leave that door open?

Oh, there are plenty of ignorant, uneducated and non exposed folks in NWA and certainly throughout Arkansas and the rest of the South. Fayetteville, being a college town, is certainly liberal leaning and very tolerant. Part of that is this young generation, which truly doesn't care what someone else does, and that is fantastic, especially on a personal level.

"A bill proposed Monday in the Arkansas Legislature would prohibit cities and counties from passing laws that offer protections based on sexual orientation or any other basis not contained in state law."

Let's prohibit cities and counties from deciding what is best for their local citizens based upon the people of that area. This is why the GOP is joke.

# of people fired and evicted last year for being gay.

Go!

Blatant hypocrisy from the liberals again. They same argument they used against voterID laws blows up in their face here.

The video of the debate between he and Petty already exposed this meathead as a dumbass.

Sadly, this is the average level of intellect and education we've voted into office in our State in this last election. I'm not huge DNC supporter, but my god. The people of Arkansas outdid themselves in this last election. Talk about cutting off your nose to spite your face.

Leslie Rutledge is also a real quality elected official brought to us by the 2014 election.

i thought the voter id stuff was stupid. however, i don't see how this legislation hurts anyone at all, all it boils down to is ensuring things are fair for all. oh the horror.

It should not be legal to fire someone purely on the basis of their sexual orientation, just like it's not legal to fire someone on the basis of their sex, gender, race, etc.

Blatant idiocy from the conservatives again

Seriously, just stop fricking trying to debate with facts (because you never ever ever have any) and just claim that it's because Jesus told you personally. It's less dumb.

I literally don't know where to begin with this statement. Being against voter ID laws -- laws that very seriously impact the voting capabilities for tons of folks -- and being for LBGTQ protection -- which again is not on the books -- demonstrations blatant hypocrisy?

His point was that we say voter ID laws are shitty because there's hardly any verifiable in person voter fraud.

He was making the same argument about being fired for being gay.

I decided to call him on the bullshite

Deep down though a lot of the conservatives just want to be able to fire people for any reason, including religious views, ethnicity or because they won't agree to sex in the office.
