It's stupid. It doesn't represent Fayetteville. It is redneck, hokey, and retarded.
No black kid from out of town wants to come to Fayetteville because of the damned hush puppies. It is full of stupid fat rednecks and we should be embarrassed that we take our recruits there when there are a dozen actual NICE restaurants a mile from there in one of the best college-town districts in the country.
We have a Dickson Street and a Square, but we take the recruits to eat deep-fried crap out in west Fayetteville.
Stop.

Great Restaurant Debate. Does the university have a contract with Catfish Hole, or is it just a tradition?
Yeah, it would be a cool thing if we had a weekend with seven recruits coming in from Michigan or California or something and you wanted to give them their first taste of southern cuisine, but the effect is sort of lost when you're treating southern people to fried catfish and hush puppies. People from Texas and Louisiana aren't going to experience culture shock and be impressed, and we don't recruit much outside of the SEC's footprint.
But you know what a black kid from out of town would really like? A stack of cash and a Dodge Charger.

The broader point is that we aren't selling Fayetteville very well.
Fayetteville is a bad-arse town with some bad-arse restaurants and cool sites. Catfish Hole isn't even on the radar for me as far as places I'd take someone if I wanted them to consider making Fayetteville their home.
I don't know the backstory about the loyalty we have to that place. The athletic department acts like its "the best place ever!!!". It's ok, but that's it. Pretending like its "the place to be" only serves to make out of towners think Fayetteville must be some shithole redneck town.
Show them stuff they don't expect to see. Nice restaurants, cool areas, etc.

Hushpuppies are okay there. Fried chicken is the best thing on the menu imo.

If i'm recruiting kids to come here I take them to does. Or maybe hermans if you want a true local business that supports the team with great food that you could pack out with fans.

Just a thought... how many of these kids would feel comfortable in a really 'nice' restaurant? Not many of them have probably ever been to one.
