It's time to talk about whether Herbert and his S&C program are worth a shite. The videos of our players squatting cars in the offseason are great fun until we see those same players get owned at the line of scrimmage and thrown around like scout teamers.

This is second year in a row that both of our lines are getting pushed around. Our offensive line can't blow anyone off the ball (see the infinity goal line chances we had against A&M) and our defensive line is getting destroyed by teams with mediocre offensive lines. Even at the goal line against Ole Miss, we're having to run speed sweeps and options to punch it in.

We don't look like we have even a semblance of speed on this team outside of Reed, who's been completely marginalized in our offense. We have no athleticism on defense.

We're slow and soft all over the field on both sides of the ball. In this league, you can either be big/strong/slow or small/soft/fast. However, we're the worst combination of big at some positions, small at others, but soft and slow all over.

There are a lot of concerns regarding our S&C program. Despite having some large bodies on the line we haven't been able to blow people off the line of scrimmage and despite playing every team that runs the hurry up offense in the South our players are getting visibly winded early and often.

The players seem to love Herb but his results have been underwhelming.

Enos and the Allen brothers managed to hide most of our defects the last two seasons but it is past time to address them.

Yep. What gets me is that we emphasize squats, strength and physical toughness yet we've essentially had to become a passing team because we can't run the football with any consistency, especially against teams worth a shite. Our defensive players can't hit or tackle with force, and they have a penchant for giving up second chance yards. We also have a tendency to lose the point of attack badly, like Liddell did against Ingram last week.

At least under Veltkamp we had team speed and could play both laterally and vertically. Our linebackers sucked but they could at least move.

We don't have anyone on defense who even looks like an SEC player save for Ledbetter.

I've been saying for awhile that Body by Herb is a myth.

However, I'm not sure that he's being given much to work with. He bulks em up for sure but a lot of our players still have a soft look.

raulerson didn't go through offseason
a&m has a damn good dline
we've gotten a push on teams our line matches up well against

that said our dline lack of push is what should be talked about. very disappointing

The problem here is that both Florida and LSU have elite level DL talent. If we can't run on them, we aren't beating either.

We're way to slow on both sides of the line. Elite lineman have to have a quickness about them. Bert should know this since he's been around great lineman before. You'd think he'd know a deficiency in the line when he sees it. Almost every line in the sec is elite. We've got to overcome and adapt

Raulerson looks like one of the weakest offensive linemen we've had in quite some time. He spends half of his time throwing lookout blocks, and half his time getting roller skated into the backfield by an opposing DT. For all Froholdt's faults, at least he's strong as frick and is a masher in the run game.

Our defensive line hasn't been able to generate a pass rush or backfield penetration since Flowers and Philon left, and they were two of the better defensive players we've had since joining the SEC. Flowers was a late bloomer that Auburn and Bama simply missed on, and Philon was headed to Bama until Saban's NSD greyshirt bull shite caused him to fall in our lap.

Still, our offensive linemen don't look strong and certainly aren't getting any sort of push at the LOS, and our defensive front can't generate even a semblance of pressure.

I seen in the sec anonymous coaches. One said we have the best or one of the best S&C in the league.

The only criticism I've had of him so far is his smoke and mirrors shite with the "gains". He takes a picture of the player pre-workout and has them relax, then his progress photo is post-workout and they are flexing.

every hates on denmark but the longhorn is much much worse. denmark at least you can run behind him. and he's starting to half arse get half decent in passing. i've never as in not once seen longhorn do anything positive. the play starts, longhorn gets his shite pushed in. it's as sure as death and taxes.

The real issue is being in the situation where a mediocre player from Texas can transfer in and start alongside a defensive lineman with exactly 4 years of football experience and 0 offensive line snaps.

If those guys are your starters...what the hell have you been doing during recruiting season? Maybe making a TV show or being chaperoned around town so you don't run the bars out of vodka?

Exactly. Our passing game is based off of play action. We can't just line up and throw it every play. We're not that type of team talent wise

Who would this be, exactly?

LINK

We are next to last in rushing yards/game in conference play and we are dead last in yards/rush at 2.65.

So, which teams have we gotten push against, exactly?

I went back and rewatched as much of the game as I could take (I wouldn't recommend it). I'm officially out on Herbert.

This team is Slow. As. Frick. Holy crap we look unathletic and sloppy all over the board, and we have since the beginning of last year.

What the frick kind of "every day is leg day" program does Herbert have these kids on? We can squat small houses, but apparently when the freaks come out they're walking at a leisurely pace.

Bert has given us a Big 10 team playing in the SEC.

We've regressed nearly 10 years.

Shocking that hiring a head coach and an S&C coach who both played and coached in the Big Ten and have a Midwestern approach to strength and conditioning would build a big, soft team that can't run.

At this point, Herb is on the same level as Decker, maybe worse. At least Nutt's lines could block decently.

So, the only team worse than we are at rushing D?

13 Arkansas 8 278 1774 6.38 24 34.75 221.75
14 Mississippi 7 308 1588 5.16 17 44.00 226.86

If only we could play them every game, or even better, if we could play ourselves.

If the worst rushing D is all you can get a push against, you aren't getting push in this conference.
