Saw they're bringing some monster rock climbing gym to Fayettevile. currently have one in Nashville.

Cool I guess, although another white person sport I don't partake in myself. In the same bundle as ultimate for me, kinda lame.

If it has the same weight/training facilities of the gyms in Nashville, my current gym (not a rock gym) will have a hard time keeping my membership, even though I love both it and the owners.

My wife is a big group fitness person and likes a "boutique" style gym, but she'd also love our kids to be exposed to climbing, since we both used to climb a lot when we were younger (and would probably do so again if we were members at a gym). The modern amenities, group fitness classes, plus climbing facility seems like a no brainer, especially since our current gym is pretty expensive as well. I doubt this one will cost much more.

Did anyone else attend the business forecasting luncheon in Rogers today?

Avg wages in NWA are above the National average. Mind blowing when you consider the rest of the state is so much below average and the cost of living in NWA

Per capita income above the national average.

NWA added 4,800 jobs in 2015.

Forecast to add 5,000 more in 2016. Boom-times for sure.

Legitimate question....what type of careers are available in Arkansas where you can start in the 70-80's and make (within five years) in the six figure area?

I think for something like that you'll need some letters behind your name. Law degree in a real estate dept, for example. CFA, CPA, etc.

You could grind it out in Walmart and hope to get on with a vendor at some point. I know folks who make low 200s now who have bachelor's degrees, but they did the Walmart and vendor thing for a decade before getting to that point. Career paths like the one you described don't just drop out of the sky.

Yeh, I know. I actually really enjoy what I do (I'm in the energy field), but it would be nice to be closer to family. We have ZERO family in S. Louisiana.

I think I should just face the facts....a move back home may never happen, unless I take a substantial pay cut. Don't think I'm willing to do that.

If you get on with the right vendors you will make that kind of money. A great path to get there is to work at the home office while you get your degree. Once you have the degree and knowledge from inside Wal-Mart you will be a pretty hot commodity.

NWA comes in at 7 in Lonely Planet's top 10 travel destinations in the US for 2016.

LINK

quote:

The company ranked Northwest Arkansas seventh out of 10 on its list, calling the region a "wild surprise, with mountains, crystal blue lakes and green river valleys that give the Rockies a run for their money."

"Each town brings a fresh surprise: in one you'll find religious fundamentalists who outlaw alcohol; the next town will have rainbow flags and health food shops; the next town will have both plus packs of bikers," the company wrote.

Lonely Planet called Fayetteville an "artsy bubble with a vibrant literary scene," Bentonville an "international town with an array of good eats" and Eureka Springs a place with a "beautiful historical core" and premier hiking spots.

Apartment occupancy hits record high in Fayetteville/NWA.

Rents are rising. Man, I sure wish I had been smart enough to sell all of my NWA and Fayetteville real estate holdings a few years back.

How bubbly do you think it is right now?

Rents going up with stagnant wages is usually a sure fire sign. Plus lending is back to pre 2009 levels.

Are you deep in the market? What are your thoughts?

You might consider it soon when this bubble pops again.

High occupancy isn't the same as a bunch of speculative building which is what happened in 2005-07. We aren't anywhere near that phase of the curve yet.

The local economy is adding jobs at a rate of 5,000 per year and wages are climbing. I don't think anything about what is going on in NWA says "bubble" right now.
