Best cities to start a business outside of Silicon Valley and NYC:

1. Cambridge, MA
2. Santa Monica, CA
3. Fayetteville, AR
4. Boulder Colorado

...the rest.

quote:

Ironically, Fayetteville's startup community is supported by three huge multinational companies: transportation giant J.B. Hunt, Tyson Foods and Walmart. These three companies offer capital, mentoring and a market for young startups. In fact, the ARK Challenge is specifically focused on developing logistics, food and retail ventures. Fayetteville also boasts a strong density of early-stage startups - nearly 10 times the average of cities analyzed - and its very low cost of living is a major draw for pre-funding companies.

We now have a "culinary medicine" program at NWACC. I'm guessing this will dovetail into the whole culinary food scene that the WFF/Ropeswing/Etc.. are trying to develop up here.

Brightwater Building - Culinary Medicine at NWACC

I can see that they hired the same agency to name it as Crystal Bridges. (edit: Actually, BLKBOX branded it. Damn... a little disappointed in Joey. Better be some kickass visuals.)

Also, I really hope that Tyson foods is a sponsor of the culinary medicine program, just to see Pigfeet's melt.

I was in Fayetteville from 06-12 or so. It definitely felt like not much new was going on for the great majority of that time but I think that's 99.99 percent due to the recession. It definitely feels like LR is growing more right now than I can remember in my lifetime.

Finally got an urban format station in NWA. I knew a group was trying to make this happen in order to make the area more appealing to African Americans.

It's 105.3

I wanted that like 15-20 years ago, now... not so much.

Unless Ronnie Brewer is financing it I don't see how the ad sales will cover the nut. However, differentiation is good.

It was put together by a group of african american investors and sports guys who definitely are concerned with AA students (and student athletes) feeling more at home in NWA. At least that's the conversation I'd had about a year ago with someone in the know.

The metro is what, 2% AA?

So there's maybe 10,000 black people in NWA? Sounds about right. Better market this station to white people and Marshallese.

I don't know anybody under 30 who listens to FM radio stations regularly. They stream and download, or go the opposite end and buy vinyl.

Luckily some white people already like rap, hip hop, r&b, etc...

wmr, looks like I'm gonna be spending a lot more time in mid-town a.k.a. fly-by country.

j/k

What's your favorite route to get from the bypass to college?

Explain the clock and your OSU affiliation.

And what are you opening in my 'hood? We need some good food, not fast food.

The clock is the moon-moon clock that CNB asked for, so I made one.

OKST = worst decision of my life other than timing the pull out. Their entrepreneurship program woo'd me w/ their $32Million investment that started a complete college under the B-school. shite-show of an experience.

Not opening anything, a buddy opened his own freight brokerage and has enticed me back into the game w/ a 50% commission. I did pretty well in that industry previously but got in w/ a bad company that only paid 3%.

I can work as much as I want and can cherry pick as I'm working my media empire.

I like that w/ logistics as long as you've got internet and phone you can work from anywhere on the globe and I can feed my wanderlust and still make money.

Midtown area is a great spot for me. Equidistant btw downtown stuff and uptown/whole foods area. No real traffic clusterfrick like Wedington. The flyover is child's play compared to Wedington/49.

The challenge is finding a property that is good enough to invest in. Lots of midcentury ranch homes.
