Im not much into music so...having said that, have you ventured over to Eureka Springs as of yet? Its a pretty hippy/ozark mountain type of town...may be something you're interested in as well

Not yet, but it's on the list. I was stuck in a motel 6 until yesterday. But now that I'm moved in, I'm more free to explore.

That's the homeless hotel. Congrats on making it out with no new holes in your body. Our homeless can be a bit stabby.

How's the picking scene? I'd love to find a place to drink a few beers and play.
So you're looking to sit in with a band and play the drums?

Honestly, once you get used to it, its the best place to live in America.
Now, from where you likely live remember that, even though they fricked it up, the bus system is free. So if you want to get groceries you can hop on the blue go up the main station and then catch the grey and get off a block away from Harps and right next to the liquor store.
If you are strolling down to Bottoms Up wear bright colors. You won't get mugged but it will reduce the chances that the every vigilant FPD will take an interest in you.
As odd as it sounds the EZ Market at the end of Leverett has the best prices of 12 packs of Coke and even Pepsi.
If you like to bike or walk the area is riddled with nature trails. Go North and you have an easy walk or bike to Dixon Street. Go South and its a breeze to bike to the upscale movie theater with a nice view along the way.
Most of all... remember... when Fat Gary is working at Bottom's Up he will wander back into the private dance area. So find out what nights he is bothering someone else.
What can I say? I dated a girl who danced there.

You should go the next Arkansauce show and I'm sure you can get to know the guys in the bluegrass scene here.

Also, the Ozark Mt. Music festival is this weekend in Eureka. All bluegrass, be a good time to check out Eureka

If you really want bluegrass and folk music, check out Mountain View as well.
Those folks up there are crazy about their music...

Please, once I discovered the joys of the opposite sex Scouting pretty well died on the vine for me. That having been said Fayetteville has some really nice nature trails that I enjoy walking on since my inner ear problem makes a bike a death trap for me.

Always enjoy going to the Farmers Market during spring and summer and seeing the different folks playing banjo's, guitars, etc. around the square. Good times.
One of my favorite things to do is take the wife and kid down to the Fayetteville square on a famer's market Saturday and just stroll around the square and enjoy the atmosphere.
Bentonville has really stepped its farmer's market game up, but there's something about the atmosphere and feel of the Fayetteville square

I'll be working 60 hours a week, so I definitely can't commit to a band. I just want to play. If it's accoustic, my cajon usually works best, even better if its stuff over 200 bpm. My hands are quick enough to play along with Split Lip Rayfield tunes. But I'm always down to sit in on a gig , especially if there's free beer and it's danceable.

Good call. I wanted to see them nye, but was too exhausted after driving 13 hours the day before and drinking at 2 pm for the Bama/Washington game. I'll have to look them up again.

Sounds cool. Though I hate that it's in a hotel. My favorite part of bluegrass festivitals is rarely the picking on stage, but the picking in the campground. If there was camping, I'd be there. But since I'll be working Saturday, I'll probably miss everything but the closer.

Ok, now I get a sense of what you like.
Definitely head to Mountain View one festival weekend. Several bluegrass folk bands all around the courthouse square. The Ozark folk center, theaters, all over town.
You would fit right in.

I've looked into moving back. I was even checking out how cheap the condos and townhomes around Dickson are. Sadly, I can't make the money in Fayetteville that I am making in Dallas. Maybe later down the road, but not right now.
Me too, plus I have 3 kids in school. I'm in the Kansas City area for a bit.

If you want to connect with local picking scene, a couple of suggestions until the Farmer's Market kicks up:
Bear's Place in 15th used to have open bluegrass jam nights. Not sure if they still do. Check their FB page.
Maybell's Music shop is really into the folk and bluegrass scene. Go there and talk to them to find some jams nights.
Get your tickets and schedule off for Roots Fest right now. Just released lineup. Highly recommend getting the VIP package that includes the Thursday night at the Garner's farm.
