Upvote for yes. Down vote for no. I will be down voting my own post as I think even with a tournament win he is right where he needs to be. I need to see next year's team.

one year at a time
keep winning, keep your damn job
I know, I know, that's not really how it's done, and I don't give a shite

Seems like we have alot of people jerking off to the moment.
Wasn't too long ago that this group said his style is outdated.

What group are you referring to?
We have a few posters who hate Mike but they've disappeared for the past two weeks.

Pump the brakes. We need to win in the tournament.

I'm Stonehog and I can read minds. Maybe they just hate losing in embarrassing fashion to inferior programs and/or talent.

I like Mike, but don't love him.
He's yet to fulfill his end of the bargain. If we make the tourney this year, great. If we don't next year, he's underperforming.
It really is simple for a lot of us. I think he's somewhere between a 6.5-7.5 out of 10 on the coaching scale. He's NOT great.

I'm ocelot and I think the basketball team should be undefeated every year or else the coach is a failure.

If Mike gets the team to the Sweet 16, then yes I'll extend him 2 years.

I hate how these arguments get turned into "Either you love him or you hate him".
I like Mike. I'm glad he's here. The whole connection with the 1990s and his emotional rapport with the program are a wonderful feel good story, and it would be awesome if he succeeded here. I think he got screwed when he didn't get the job in 2002, but better late than never.
I give him a little bit of a pass right now, just because of the state of the program when he got here. Keep in mind, we've had more losing seasons than tourney berths since Nolan's last year. BWA was still packed during Stan Heath's tenure, even when he was losing 20 games a year. Now we can barely fill it. I used to have to pay 20 bucks for seats by the rafters, now you can get lower level seats for less than 10 bucks (a welcome price drop btw, but indicative of a lack of demand). I used to walk out of a losing game with my ears ringing, now I can still listen to NPR at a low volume on my drive home.
That being said, making the tournament is great this year, and I think he's on the right track. But if we fall back down to 16-16 like we did last year, I will be disappointed, and probably start to wonder. I think a reasonable bar after 7 years is consistently making the tourney every year (or to put a number on it, roughly 22 wins a year at least). At this point, i'm not expecting Scotty, Corliss, and Corey to come running through that tunnel, but I'd be happy with a consistent tourney team.

Which I've said literally never, nor insinuated as much (including the post you responded to).

I wonder how long Mike wants to continue coaching? He's 57 now.

I know, i was just giving my needless input, wasn't talking to you specifically.
It isn't a love or hate situation with this coach. He's so much different than the previous we've had.
He's an extremely likeable, honest, and genuine person. I'm just not sold on the actual coaching ability.
