The big 10 has been trending the whole "homecoming" thing lately…Harbaugh, Urban, Franklin… We all know Bret would probably only leave for Iowa… But do they know that?

Of course they do - my bet is the buyout on Ferrentz is too high. Anyway, the man has his path, and wherever it takes him, I'm grateful for what he's done for our program.

I don't understand why everyone thinks Bert would take the Iowa job. He'll have a much tougher time in the B1G now than when he was there now that MSU is elite, OSU has maybe the best offensive (or at least QB) coach in history and Michigan just hired Jim fricking Harbaugh.

I know Bert played there and he has a 20 year old tattoo of a Hawkeye but I don't think it would be hard at all to keep him if Iowa came calling. He's gone through the growing pains of rebuilding a program in the SEC and I doubt he wants to do it again with how ridiculously top heavy the B1G is gonna be soon. And our program has a lot more money/upside/recruiting advantages than Iowa.

I looked at it like - if they came at him wit 4.5 a year, and it being his Alma Matter, that may be a hard gig to pass for him. I don't know, and would hope he would stay - but Iowa is paying their guy 4 a year now.

Anyway, why borrow trouble when we have plenty already

Even if Iowa was my alma mater there's no way I'd go back to coach them

Agreed. That job is a tough, tough place to win at in today's college football landscape. With used to be low-to-mid level schools now able to pump significant amounts of money in to their programs these days, it isn't going to get any easier.

This is probably an alter post, but I'll bite. Not saying it's impossible that Bert leaves, but even Les Miles stayed at LSU, and Urban Meyer picked UF over Notre Dame, despite ND being his dream job.

The real question comes down to whether he picks with his heart or his brain. Iowa is a hard school to win at, and with fewer facilities and support than us. If Bert builds us into a power, then it might be hard for him to leave. Rebuilding has to wear on a coach.

It's a very legitimate question ...Iowa is not good anymore under Ferrentz and Being Bert's alma mater i think he would give it serious thought...we already know he likes a challenge and rebuilding Iowa would give him that

the one thing about it... in the last two searches we have gotten BIG NAMED COACHES... caps for emphasis

I honestly think we would be able to again, but I want Bret to stay for several years

Would Iowa be willing or able to pay his assistants? That's why he's here.

I don't think Bret wants to be slapped around anymore.

frick if I know.

Its not like Iowa hasn't had several seasons with results like this one or worse under Ferentz then upped his pay to fend off other job offers that same season...

How does CBB's wife like Fayetteville?

Would she want to move to Iowa?

I'm sure a gazillion x more than she'd like Iowa.

Frick no. I've been there, and just no.

Eta - I don't think there's anything to be concerned with here, particularly from some little fricktard supposed Auburn fan on a message board.

People forget that a head football coach hasn't left the hill willingly in decades.
