Opponents often reach the second and third levels of the defense with ease. Other times it comes down to missed tackles or assignments. But how bad is it really? It’s one of the worst of the past decade according to cfbstats.com

The Razorbacks are averaging 6.34 yards per carry allowed this season through 10 games. If the season ended last Saturday, it would rank 1,110 out of 1,113 FBS teams in the last nine seasons

Terrible. That staff definitely has to be shaken up in the offseason.

What an absolutely pathetic stat... I'd fire Robb for that alone... It's a joke... Of course this is basically a result of having ZERO talent at LB for a decade... Outside of Spaight for 1 year... They haven't had a legit thumper in the middle since Nutt... Who coincidentally left 9 yrs ago.

Some of that stat is in Bobby, who didn't give a shite about defense... But Bert has been a total, complete, and utter joke.

It was around this time last year our run defense was ranked 11th.

Smith and Segrest definitely need to go. Hargreaves and Rhoads can stay IMO

The ultimate scenario would be for Strong to be fired from Texas and come here as DC to restart his career.

Even if he is here for 1-2 years before getting a shot elsewhere, it would be worth it for in roads with his recruiting connections alone.

Hey guys this is just all due to talent. Come on. This coaching staff is just doing the bestest they can with our terrible recruits. Let's just all stop complaining and being mean to the coaches.

Its not all about scheme either.

But the knees tend to jerk anyway.

I'm not saying it's all due to scheme either

But our talent gap isn't as bad as what we've seen this year in the losses. I'm not an expert on the details of our schemes, but I just know that we returned 9 starters (losing Greenlaw obviously hurt a lot) and our defense has managed to still fall off from last year. The run defense is just embarrassing.

He expanded it to the last 17 seasons. Ranked 2,055 out of 2,058.

Seems like in the past we've always been able to somewhat defend the run, even when we've had terrible defenses

What I've noticed is guys far to often are in the wrong spot, so that can be contributed to scheme or the wrong players being in the game, meaning they do not understand or know their assignments.

Ok so get these guys on the bench and put in guys who know what they are suppose to be doing, simple, right?

Even in games we've dominated TOP, the defense still tires out and gives up the big plays in the second half (A&M, LSU, TCU, etc) so this is likely a tell tale about the guys behind the starters, is it talent or knowing the system that is preventing them from providing depth during the game?

Kinda get the sense the current staff took the same approach as Petrino to fix the offense first then focus on the defense, the problem is they likely found the defense was much further behind what they expected like the offense was when they got here.

Looking at Gibson on the O-line who we beat UCA out for (IIRC) to walk-on, Go to south Arkansas, west Mississippi, and North Louisiana, recruit some athletes who will play on the defense side of the ball and frick the rankings. A walk on from Pine Bluff benched a 3 year starter at Texas, so simple statistics says there are more of these guys out there who can play positions like DT, LB, S, CB, etc...

Yeah, but those defenses couldn't defend the pass.

So its bizzaro world right now.

If Brooks Ellis' strength is against the run (which is what all you Brooksy lovers fall back on) then why again is this one of the worst run defenses of the past 9 years?

I guess when you play 9 against 11 it's a little difficult to stop teams.

Some of y'all are completely misreading the reference of 9 years.

This isn't a compilation of program-level stats.

He's talking about one team in the context of all other teams from the last 9 seasons. In essence, he's saying that the 2016 Arkansas Razorbacks have the 1,110th ranked rush defense out of 1,113 teams measured over that time span.

All of the other Razorback defenses from 2008 to 2015 are ranked somewhere in there as well.

Why can't we recruit SEC LB's might be a better question, Spaight was anomaly, Dre was coming into his own before he was injured. Brooksy wouldn't find the field at Bama, Auburn nor LSU.

Hackett , Williams, Reynolds and Josh Harris were bad misses at recruiting.

Until we can recruit legit LB's we will continue to suck against the Pro style or HUNH teams.
