Women's basketball team suck with your shitty hire in Jimmy Dykes. Track and field is losing its glory of what it once was with your shitty hire as well. Our baseball coach fricking sucks as well. I'm best friends with Bo Bigham. He has always told me Arkansas High's coach is better than DVH. He hates DVH with a passion. I don't follow basebore, so I wouldn't know, just throwing that out there by a player that actually played on the team.

Every sports team is going to have a player that hates their coach. It's also not a secret that DVH isn't a players coach. Nothing newsworthy there.

Yea, I understand that, but it's a couple more than just one player.
I don't follow baseball at all, so I can't speak on Coach DVH's coaching abilities. I'm just reporting on what my friend since middle school has said over and over.

I knew a guy who played one year for Van Horn back around '05-06'...despised the guy...along with every other player.
Back to the Jeff long melt...the poster is 100% correct...Long has run all the major programs into mediocrity and will saddle the university with tens of millions in buyouts and expenses once all these guys are fired. ..then he makes the new hires too, which clearly is not his strong point.

Long only cares about the teams having decent grades and making money.
The ridiculous salary and job security he has given Fat Bert and Mike are why they are so complacent.

All 3 need to go. Most of is were underwhelmed with Bret Beilema hire in the first place. We had to "buy in" like the players did. I know the Petrino lightning strike isn't likely to happen twice, but we can do better than this.
Mike Anderson has shown exactly what he's got. A less athletic version of 40 minutes of hell. The 40 minutes of hell usually belong to the fans that actually watch the games still.
Jeff Long has turned a passionate fan base in to an apathetic fan base. I'm losing interest in the Razorbacks. I never thought I would feel this way. I skipped the bowl game and haven't watched the BB team play at all this season. I don't feel like a fair weather fan. I just don't really care any more. Embarrassment and failure pretty much describe Arkansas athletics for the laSt 20 years. We need some real change and it starts at the top.

Ditto. I was friends with a guy who played for him between 2004 and 2006 and had nothing good to say about DVH.
I also recently met a guy who played for him around the same time and had similar things to say about him.

The fact that we have a football coach going into year 5 with a sub-.500 record (do yourself a favor and don't look at his record in SEC play) and a basketball coach in year 6 with one (!) NCAA tournament appearance should be enough to cost Long his job, but it won't.
It's unbelievable how our athletic program has fallen off a cliff in half a decade yet somehow everyone is unfireable.

This is pretty much where I am. I love my alma mater and always will, but I'm becoming increasingly disinterested in Razorback athletics and often find myself indifferent at times to what is happening. I didn't even know Wednesday was NSD until that night when I logged on here. I didn't watch much of the bowl game. I turned games off this year for the first time ever (Auburn in the 1st quarter, A&M during the 3rd, and LSU at halftime). I didn't renew my Foundation membership.
I want them to succeed, but I find myself not caring anymore. Sometimes I feel like our AD is the same way.

This really is the most poignant part. I get how you can't go around firing everyone on a kneejerk after one bad year. At a certain point, it had to be OK to cut the cord, right? I don't blame Long for the failures of MA and BB. On paper, they were tremendous hires. He made two decisions firmly based in logic, they just haven't panned out.
But the point remains that they haven't panned out, and it's looking clearer and clearer that they aren't going to. You can't just let these guys freely siphon the funds and life force from the university and fans like some sort of vampires.
I'm not sure how we make the tournament at this point. If we don't and Mike stays employed after this season, then Long has jumped the shark. The story will have reached conspiracy levels. It's like we're the victims of some kind of reverse deus ex machina.

I said this in another thread but if the bottom falls out in basketball and Long keeps Anderson, and we have a mediocre season this year in football (5-7 to 7-5), I think the BoT will start to make a move on Long.
