ALLEGEDLY. I tried to fit the word into the title but it didn't fit.

Facebook Link

Quoting in case the Facebook link doesn't work for any of you:

quote:

Yesterday fayetteville alderman John la tour ward 4 assaulted a dear friend in public demanding they choose a gender in a packed restaurant. He demanded she pick a gender declaiming loudly that he couldn't tell if she was a man or a woman. She is not transgendered and does not in any way present any ambiguity about gender in any way. She's a woman. He then explained that he was a man and could prove it by dropping his pants and showing his penis. That is bullying behavior and unacceptable on so many levels. Please call any news outlets you know and alert them to his "protests". I doubt offering to expose yourself would be considered protected speech even by the right wing activist Dugger family who funded his campaign. He should be kicked out of office.

According to the comments, this occurred at The Depot, which is an Arsaga's establishment near Dickson Street.

On his Facebook page, John La Tour said this:

> John La Tour's Facebook Page

Then, someone commented on that post, pointing out that it is a violation of the Fayetteville City Council's ethical code to make such a suggestion. Quoting from that comment:

quote:

According to the Rules of Order and Procedure of The Fayetteville City Council document you have violated Item G. Code of Ethics, specifically Items 2 (Conflict of Interest) and 3 (Responsibility to all Citizens):

"...shall refrain from making or influencing decisions involving business associates, customers, clients, competitors and immediate family members..."

"Members of the City Council and the Mayor shall conduct themselves so as to bring credit upon the city as a whole and so as to set an example of good ethical conduct for all citizens of the community. The Members of the City Council and the Mayor shall bear in mind at all times their responsibility to the entire electorate, shall refrain from actions benefiting special interest groups at the expense of the city as a whole, and shall do everything in their power to ensure equal and impartial law enforcement throughout the city without respect to race, creed, color, or the economic or social position of individual citizens."

Personally, I think it's a stretch to say he violated the code of ethics with that comment about not going to Arsaga's, but I think John La Tour is definitely in a bit of hot water. People in Fayetteville are pissed.

La Tour rode into office on a wave of anti-gay backlash to the gay civil rights protections, representing the most conservative ward in the city, mostly west of 49.

He's a freaking joke and should be recalled. West Fayetteville needs somebody who will actually look out for them. He seems like he's rarely prepared at any of the council meetings and doesn't seem very interested in serving.

It's an embarrassment that he got elected in this town.

He's screwed. While not obnoxiously over the top with it like some college towns Fayetteville is fairly liberal. This will not go over well.

IF he did do those things, and I wasn't there so I can't say for certain, then he deserves to be kicked to the curb. Fayetteville doesn't need that sort of person serving as an elected official.

Offering to expose your penis in a restaurant is the exact opposite of what someone who's interested in serving would do, so I think you're right.

Unfortunately, a friend of mine who's pretty dialed into Fayetteville politics says that there's no recall procedure for the City Council.

Irrespective of his personal feelings about gay people, I think he's just a shitty alderman. He does stuff like vote against grants for local projects. I pretty much disagree with everything he votes for or against.

In his first meeting, I believe he tried to get a sidewalk funded adjacent to his own property, but he's against what he views as "wasteful spending", which seems like just about everything else that comes up.

Total POS.

He also, clearly, does zero homework. He's always completely uninformed on agenda items and just randomly votes on stuff without any real rationale.

Yeah he randomly votes no to consent agenda items

I've met him. Huge douche. Hoping for a recall

This is one side of the story, but if things truly went down like that, this guy should be getting a visit from this woman's father, son, or brother, or first cousin or friend for that matter.

You don't talk to women like that in south Arkansas. We've got as many conservative freaks as anyone, some that are my family members (lol), but liberal or conservative, no one talks that way to women down here for free.

I've been waiting for the next public town hall with Mr La Tour. Now I'm about ready to just start raising hell at council meetings. I really hope Kinion, Gray, Petty and Marsh start dropping public exposure innuendo comments at council meetings

I know they hate working with him

I'm going to assume that you're joking here and you don't really think getting offended by this is in any way comparable to the overstated shitshow that went down at Mizzou.

I mean are you really living the Fayetteville life if you aren't whipping your dick out in public, specifically in coffee shops or family restaurants.

I'm more put off by the so called boycott than that guys comment, so no, wasn't joking.

Ha. Petty is a good alderman. He works his arse off for the city. I don't agree with everything he has sponsored or voted for, but he's a good rep for my ward.

He "stole" a bike that had been chained up and basically abandoned near the trail. The owner was very understanding and admitted that it was an honest mistake and that they know why someone assumed it was trash. They didn't press charges and accepted his apology.

Bringing up the "bike thief" charge every time someone mentions Matt Petty is more petty than what Matt actually did, in his 20s... He's a good public servant and, unlike this shitbird La Tour, actually wants to make this city a better place. Matt Petty is good in my book.
