I know commercial NNN leases are going for record rates all over the metro area. Prices people wouldn't have dreamed of only 6-7 years ago.
I know land prices are at all time highs.

I know you're just trolling here, but I figured I may as well repeat something I had said about this in Hawgeye's OT thread.
The guy who wrote True Detective is a UofA alum. He had hoped that the season one story would take place here, but the decision was shot down by HBO producers and they shot a different story down in Louisiana.
Now that the show has experienced so much success, and considering he is the only writer for the show, they're finally gonna do the story he wanted to do from the get go.
It has nothing to do with Fayetteville wanting to play Hollywood. And they would be dumb to turn down the opportunity to have a show filmed here.
But like I said, you already know this. You're just trolling. Or envious.

I'm not as worried about the show making Fayetteville look bad as some of you. The writer loves Fayetteville, and in the discussions about the funding package, the city was assured that Fayetteville would become a "character" in the show, and be cast in a positive light.

The creator Nic Pizzolatto went to grad school at Arkansas, I’m sure it will be Hollywooded up but I imagine he’ll be fair in his portrayal of Fayetteville

Can we have realistic accents too? I mean just a tinge of southern in there but not go all full blown Georgia drawl?
That's one reason I wasn't as crazy about True Detective season 1 as some, I felt like I had to focus so much on understanding just what the hell they were saying in that cajun/LA accent too much to enjoy just following the story.

I thought Woody Allen's garbled speech was pretty good for South Louisiana. It was overdone, but not by much.
The western Arkansas accent is more Texas-sounding than "southern drawl", but they'll probably have us talking like Gone With the Wind.

Since the stories span decades, there has to be an angle about some previously poor hillbilly turned into nouveau riche a-hole, because there's a lot of that around here.
Hell, outside of Fayetteville-proper, its practically the "local flavor". There are some parallels to be drawn between NWA and West Texas oil families in that way.
