Cole cubelic literally said he thinks we will be last in the sec. Said we would lose to ole miss. Didn't see how we could win any games ever. Because we don't run the ball 90% of the time like we did in 2013/14.
He was on the Solid Verbal podcast a few weeks ago speaking about SEC line play and touched on us for a bit. His review was mixed to a degree. Said he wasn't sure how Austin Allen made it through the session last year with how badly our OL played, and that it showed his toughness. He also praised Bijohn Jackson's abilities as a 0-technique in the 3-4, but also questioned our motives for making the switch. He said a few of our issues last year were attributed to poor angles, bad fundamentals and simply not getting line up on defense.

Montaric Brown should be on campus practicing next week

I hope Robb Smith freezes to death in Minnesota.

Although this is a "running" league...you gotta get more guys in coverage. We typically has less depth than most...rotating 6 vs 8 is a little easier.
Our LB's this year are much more athletic IMO

Hell...this was happening early in the season...like TCU.
I put those things on the DC

Yep.
I DVR'd the replay of the TCU game that aired recently and watch it every now and then (pretty good television when it's 2am and you're rocking a 2 month old), and I noticed that same thing. There were quite a few plays, mostly in the second half, where we simply didn't get lined up before the snap due to alignment confusion and proceeded to get gashed by Trill on QB scrambles.
I remember that happening often last year, and it seemed to happen more frequently later in the season. Offenses were adjusting to what we were doing and we didn't pivot, which led to the collapses.

I think there would be more concern about the switch if we were making under the same DC that we had issues under last year. I just think in general over time a 3-4 is going to better for us. I fully expect some growing pains but it wouldn't take much for the defense to be better than what it was last year.

Which is why last season wasn't the most disappointing season for me as a Razorback fan, but it was by far the most frustrating. Seeing mistakes in game 1 or 2 is expected. Seeing the same mistakes all the way through to the bowl game? My liver should launch a class action suit against Smith.
I would sit back and call out what was going to happen during games. "We're confused, they are going to go hurry up and run it right down the middle for a big gain." You know I prefer to watch Razorback games without a sense of dread and doom hanging over me thank you.
I do not miss Robb Smith. Once teams figured out what his weakness was they just beat us to death with it.

Its a running league because of the quarterbacks these days though. You need more coverage and ability to mix pressure on the qb.

We looked unprepared at all times and never adjusted it was embarrassing.

Was it coaching or recruiting?
I suppose we'll find out this year, or Bert will find another DC

I'd rather it be us finding a new head coach then if that's the case.

Probably a little of both.
But we hated Willy Robinson, and then Paul Haynes, and then Chris Ash, and then Robb Smith. Only so much a coach can do with not a whole lot of talent.

After what I've seen since then, I think Willy got a lot of undeserved hate.

How damn hard is it to play with a spy on the field? Coaching 101 if your playing a tram with a qb who can scramble always have a soy on him on 3rd and lomg. Yet for the last 10 years we don't do that. Stupid as hell. Also if you know the team loves designed qb runs and has hit you with it already 3 or 4 times how about stack the box and blitz up the middle. (Last year vs a&m)

Bielema: Both Dre Greenlaw and De'Jon Harris are 100% and fully involved.
Bielema: Deon Stewart and La'Michael Pettway have each had a good week. Jordan Jones has a play or two every day that makes you say, “wow.”
Bielema: Austin Allen has been outstanding.

Does anyone think Montaric Brown will be an early contributor or will he redshirt? I know he isn't fully cleared yet, just wondering.

Redshirt. Coming in too late and has to learn the playbook still.
Posted on 8/16/17 at 2:29 pm to Pygthagorean Theorem
Doesn't take much to learn a defensive playbook. I mean cover 1 cover 2 cover 3 cover 4 man. It's pretty much the same at any level. Yeah he may not know all the blitzes and what not but he could still be used in certain situations and if he's that much more talented than the rest of our secondary from an athletic standpoint he may not be worth the redshirt
