I'll be in Eureka in a few weeks. I currently have reservations at the Crescent but I really don't feel like paying $230 for a few hours of sleep. Some of these cottages/cabins in the area seem to be pretty good deals and have great reviews. Have any of y'all stayed in these?

While I'm up there, might as well find something fun to do since I took off the following Monday. Table Rock is close and I've never been. Any recommendations on cabins there or boat rental?

Any other recommendations for that area would be appreciated. I don't mind driving a few hours from there to check out some things. If I don't come up with much I may just truck it over to St Louis to check a ballgame out. Never been there either.

The best peanut butter pie I have ever had was at the mud street cafe in Eureka springs and the waitress was I would go to thorncrown chapel and Christ of the ozark stuff. A must thing in the area is dogwood canyon in Missouri, do the tram tour.

I mean if your in eureka springs it's something you got to do. I would hit dogwood canyon and top of the rock in Branson if you are willing to drive. Also, go hit Moses at sight and sound in branson to compliment your eureka spring outings.

I'd drive to Fayetteville and watch a game at Baum Stadium. Eureka is pretty much an old hippie town. Nothing more.

There's a guy that has a nice modern airbnb right on the strip. It's like 130 a night with a minimum of 2 nights. Much better that paying crazy amounts for a room that's 100 years old.

Eureka is for bikers and gays.

You can stumble drink up and down the streets and likely smoke weed in public with little hassle. There's that.

I like Shaw's Tavern and the Cat House. I think it's called the Cat House. I've smoked weed there in public a few times.

Downtown Eureka Springs gives zero fricks.

There's no shortage of places to stay in Eureka. I liked the Crescent and as far as cabins go we stayed at the Cinnamon Valley Cabins in a couple of different cabins and they were nice. LINK. They are close to town as well. I like Eureka Springs and the surrounding area (Holiday Island, etc.)

There are plenty of condos or houses you can rent for the time you're staying just outside of Eureka at Holiday Island. Do a google search and you should find plenty. Ive stayed in these before and they overlook the lake. Just about 10 minutes outside of Eureka and you can also play the golf courses in Holiday Island.

Not far from Holiday Island is a neat little safari you can drive your own car through. Eureka also has a pretty cool big cat rescue facility that has a lot of Tigers, Lions, Panthers, Mountain Lions, etc. I actually think LSU has gotten a couple of their Mike the Tiger's from that particular rescue place. Its best to go at feeding time if you want to see a cool little frenzy and hear roars.

It just seemed touristy to me. I kinda wish it was a true hippie town. I mostly just saw bikers trying really hard to look cool.

Bikers have done more to ruin that city than anything else.

Christians like to blame the gays, but when I think about Eureka, I think about a bunch of old farts trying to relive Easy Rider.

You still smell weed in Basin Park most of the time, and on certain patios.

They're just following their main commandment:

And God said unto them: Lo, it is not your fault, everything that has gone wrong is the fault of somebody else. You must persecute that group and things will get better, and if they don't, you must find another group and persecute them until it improves.

The primary actors in that subculture are late Baby Boomers, the teens of the 70s. They are slowly but surely dieing out and losing their ability to continue that shite.

The younger generations never embraced it as fully as that one group did, plus there's a lot more of them as an age cohort.

It is touristy and overrun with motorcycles this time of year, but it is most assuredly a hippie town.

Stay at the Pine Lodge, within walking distance of the Rowdy Beaver. Get shitty drunk. Super cheap and about all there is to do.

Appreciate the input. Stayed at Oak Crest Cottages for cheap. The scenery and outdoor stuff was great, but the town as a whole was the strangest place I've ever been. Enjoyed it, but just strange.

I did manage to almost die floating the Buffalo in high water. Wish the Kings water level would have been good. I was looking forward to that.
