Does Bert have any options out there that would free us of his payout?

Iowa, which is likely where he would like to end up coaching will not be open for a while.

What about Kansas State? Could the old geezer retire? Bert would probably snatch up that gig IMO.

Any NFL spots opening up that be may bolt for? Could he be interested in Jacksonville since his wife is from Florida? Would Jacksonville be interested in him?

Your thoughts?

I don't see it unless there is a moral clause and he violates it. I don't see how anyone would be interested enough to lure him away and pay that buyout.

They don't have to pay us much of anything. That buyout is a one way street. I think if he leaves we only end up with like a mil or two. Not the 15+ mil we would have to pay him.

At this point it's Iowa, Kansas State, and a middle to lower tier Big Ten program like Purdue, Indiana or Minnesota.

Ferentz is locked down for the long haul, so Iowa coming open would be contingent upon him retiring.

I doubt Snyder has too much left in the tank given his age. That's a very real possibility.

I think he's had enough of the meat grinder that is the SEC and would jump at the opportunity if a Big Ten school like Minnesota came calling.

probably less than the buyout we would have to pay to hire someone away from another Univ

Ah, that makes the contract even stranger then. I still don't see it unless he just really wants to leave by the end of next year.

I mean, he has to see the writing on the wall. He has to.

I think he definitely sees the writing on the wall at this point.

He had a losing record here, and has had a losing conference record every year but 2015. His overall conference record is atrocious, and he's nowhere near .500. Recruiting has been difficult, and he's taken a significant step back this season with next season looking to be potentially worse.

I honestly think he starts shaking the trees for jobs in attempt to get the hell out of here before it gets worse.

“I can tell you this,” says Bielema. “We at the Big Ten don’t want to be like the SEC—in any way, shape or form.”

Obliviously he doesn't want to become like the SEC because he's too busy crying over another coaches recruiting instead of trying to prepare his team for next season. Which by the way, Wisconsin isn't exactly killing it this year in recruiting, as they've only landed a total of 12 recruits. Ohio State has more 4-star or 5-star players than the Badgers have total recruits.

A losing season next year could have him hunting for colder temps during the winter.

He's going to writing a lot of hand written letters

Does anyone think that Bert will be pressured to renegotiate his contract to send a message that he is committed to us?

If so, will he?

That question will be answered soon enough if he keeps Segrest and Smith on staff.

If Segrest and Smith are still on staff when spring ball starts then I'm done with him. It will be clear at that point, to me at least, that he has his head in the sand.

He's invested IMO. He will be gone when he is fired

The current expiration date of his contract means an extension will be due within the next calendar year to extend the years under contract for recruiting purposes.

With this extension his buyouts can also be restructured.

He current contract is set to expire before this years class will graduate when you factor in his belief of the redshirt program.

Why would an NFL team touch him?

Hadn't thought about K State but that seems realistic. Especially considering Snyder was rumored to retire after last year.

yeah,I just can't imagine why Bret can't get us back to the glory days of the 1960's in four years.

Snyder wants his son to take over and k state may just do that as it can't be any worse than the last time they tried to replace him.

I understand what Bret is trying to do.It just takes time to build it up.To abandon it now makes no sense to me.
