Plain and simple, I do not. I'm not advocating a move or anything silly like that. I just wondered if any of you got excited or felt special or gave any rah rah's about being in the sec outside of the money aspect.

Just wondering if it's my age that makes me not care or if that was the norm.

I couldn't care less what other SEC do aginst OOC opponents. The only time I pull for another SEC team is if their win will help the hogs.

I have next to none. It's my favorite league and I couldn't imagine us being anywhere else, but I rarely root for SEC.

Yes

Born and raised in the old SEC (Sewanee, Tulane, Georgia Tech) and have a lifetime of memories hanging out with folks at all the SEC stops. It really was a family mentality back then. I lived in Arkansas in the old SWC days and hated the All Texas League and always felt like the Hogs were the outsider.

Back in the age of dinosaurs and OG's it was the SEC vs everybody else and it was the only conference I remember with this dynamic. It was probably due to how the rest of the US viewed the south and especially the deep south. Since my grandparents were in HS back in the Capone Era and I still drink the same Mountain Valley my great grandparents did and that area is never far from my thoughts.

I am glad Hogs are in the SEC but seeing the old SEC and the old SWC I can view both ways equally. As an honest look I can see and understand the chip many Hog fans carry but have chosen not to add that burden to my already crap laden burden of life. We still have a place in HS but I get there less and less. It has been a few years since I was in Fayetteville for a game at BW but I liked the old venues like Barnhill. TB is a big arse venue but Stokley is still one of my favorite places to watch a basketball game.

As the old guy, the group was greater than the singular. You could tell because people would take pictures of others. Now we take pictures of ourselves and only take pictures of others to make fun of them. Sad indeed, but it is where we are now and unless the younger crowd sees the difference it will become the long term future.

TL:DR
Pride in yourself can mask narcism
Pride in the community is usually the better long term goal

Sort of. I admit that I like the perception of the SEC as the "best" league, which is a direct result of the success of our competitors against OOC opponents.

I like the fact that we can be mid-tier in the SEC, and national pundits will be talking about how we'd be the top team in other conferences (not sure whether that's really accurate or not).

That being said, I love seeing some SEC teams lose.

I admit... I had SEC pride. A shot of penicillin cleared it up though.

Nah... I'm pleased with the league and I prefer our teams to beat "their" teams but I'll happily cheer on a school I like more then an SEC member in a game.

Not really. I like Arkansas and follow some of the other teams in the SEC but as a whole I don't get into the whole league pride deal.

Not really pride but...I believe you should always want the teams you play to be successful except when they play you.

It looks better if you beat a good team than a bad team. It looks better if you lose to a good team rather than a bad team.

Look at Missouri. They have won the east the last 2 years and get little credit for it because Tennessee and Florida have been bad. That's why it's important (for perception) for the teams you play to be successful.

The only way it helps to have all the SEC teams losing is recruiting. It's also fun to see certain teams melt after losses

I want them to suck enough that we get their best recruits, but in the case of LSU, TAMU, win enough to keep their coaches and us beat them.

Im not asking for much

It would be interesting to see the age and locations of the responses.

Again, coming from the SWC is different than having SEC parents, grand parents, great grandparents, etc going all the way back to the early days of football and the SIAA.

I have none. I used to, but the whole Petrino mess and everything we went through with that, I saw how much other SEC fans seemed to enjoy it.

That killed it for me. I actually root against SEC teams most of the time. I have no love for any of them.

I do, in the way that "steel sharpens steel" aspect. I get frustrated with our administration because it feels like they don't want to do what's necessary at times to compete in the conference (i.e. recruiting, spending the $) - but I'm a bitch right now after our loss, and I'll settle down.

Back on point, the better the conference does, the more opportunities we can make for ourselves.

This a good point. I grew up with the Razorbacks in the SWC and had finished my schooling at Fayetteville several years before they moved to the SEC so I don't doubt that colors my perspective of things. When I was young I used to have this postcard on the wall of my room and kept up with other teams we played (and back then we played each team every year, something that gets lost in big conferences). In a way those were the glory years of football for me.

And I remember going to the barber shop and the barber would always have the yearly Razorback calendars with all the players on them and that was back during a time the Razorbacks were having most of their greatest success.

At the same time though I never regarded it as important to pull for the conference or have conference pride. The only pride was for the Razorbacks. This didn't mean I didn't like some of of the other teams or didn't follow them but I never really viewed them as family. And I felt the same way when I played sports--had no real special feelings about the league or conference and my pride was reserved for my own team.

I pull for SEC teams in non-conference games sometimes. Depends on who is playing. Other than that...nope.

Tailgating etc with other SEC fans makes for a great environment. Fans are by and large nice, but I think those people are just nice and welcoming in general, not because of conference affiliation

I'd rather watch SEC games than any other, but maybe because I'm just more familiar with the schools and players

That said, I don't really care what happens at most SEC gridirons most weekends. When they showed Auburn vs Louisville and some UGA blowout in our stadium I was pissed off because IDGAF about them compared to my Hogs. Cutting out an opportunity to hear our songs and do our traditions in favor of seeing other SEC teams score on our scoreboard took it too far for me
