It’s a great time to be a beer lover in Arkansas. There are quality breweries that span the state, and with time, their number will only continue to grow. In Rock City, the scene is on the up-and-up, although there are cries for Northwest brews to call the central part of the state home.

It’s time to rejoice, as Core Brewery Co. will answer that demand. The Springdale operation plans to expand to Argenta, and will set up shop where the Starving Artist Café used to be, on 411 Main St. in North Little Rock.

Jesse Core, the founder of the brewery, hopes to be operational by the first of 2016, although this depends largely on everything running smoothly in readying the space.

The decision to move into Little Rock was one that took some research and time. He said, “We looked at different locations, but we really loved the area, it’s a great spot with a lot going on.”

Including the original hub in Springdale, Core currently has six locations scattered across the Northern part of the state. After the original brewery opened, each subsequent location was modeled after Public Houses found in the UK. Core, who spent time brewing in England, brought the style to Arkansas when he first opened in 2010.

“There will just be Core tap heads in the Argenta location. We’re looking to get more people familiar with the brand,” he explained.

Core has had their brews floating around the Central market in cans for a bit now – from their ESB, a classic take on the English ale, to their Oatmeal Stout, which is a slightly sweet but balanced drink – among others.

Get your pint glasses ready, as this is a done-deal. “We are so excited to be coming to Little Rock,” said Core.

Hopefully they can keep beer stocked better than they do in NWA.

Yeah. Core is pretty meh. Very aggressive marketing which far surpassss their quality. OBC is the cream of the crop by far. Such quality freaking beer.

I just drank two lost 40 apas ar zazas tonight. Not as good as the OBC APA but still good. That being said, it's hard to argue with the Yellow Rocket machine.

I'm not really a fan of Core or Lost 40. I haven't tried that many Arkansas beers, but so far, Diamond's probably my favorite and I wouldn't say that it's all that great. Vino's used to make a nice ale, but it's been forever since I last visited Vino's, so I don't know if they still do.

Diamond is the worst in the state.

Saddlebock is bad as well.

For people who actually drink beer in a serious fashion, OBC, lost 40, fossil cove, apple blossom, and then core (some releases) are pretty much it.

Bike rack, west mountain, and a few other nanos put out some good stuff but not really readily available.

I don't mind diamond bear's pale ale. Its ok. I have not tried OBC, so I will have to do that. Lost 40 and Apple blossom are both very good. I have not been to vinos in a few but I used to like it.

I'd put Core over Fossil cove and Apple Blossom in the top three. Saddlebock and Diamond are not good.

On my first pass, I visited Saddlebock, Core, and West Mountain.

I didn't try every option at every place but I rank them as:

1. Saddlebock

2. Core

3. West Mountain

West Mountain was last, so maybe I was just tired of testing beer by the time I got to them.

Saddlebock had 15 beers or more and I had two that were as good as any micro brew I've had.

To each his own I guess.

Yall are making me jealous. There's only one very good brewery in Florida that I've found. The craft beer scene out here is pathetic. At least we have yuengling though.

It's not a NWA brewery but they distribute heavy here. Springfield's Mother's Brewing Co. Makes the only beer I've ever poured down the drain.

It's a raspberry version of the 3 blind mice IIRC it was terrible. Cost $12 for a single bottle of about a pint and a half. Looks like it's not even on their website now.

It's turned me off if all their products. I'm really digging OBC's line up.

Mothers Winter Grind is one of my favorites.

Mothers winter grind is probably one of the best coffee stouts Ive had. Totally agree on that. Not big on all their products, but it's fantastic

Totally agree on OBC. Andy Coates is going to get some serious respect in the beer world if he keeps it up.

Their APA is my favorite Arkansas beer by far and one of my favorite sessions beers period. Their Saisons are always interesting (and that's my favorite style so I love that they put them our frequently). That fresh hop ipa they just put out is really nice as well.

West Mountain had a rye that was really nice a while back. I probably rated it too high as a whole.

Cigar City out of Tampa is amazing and their Jai Alai IPA is considered one of the best american ipas.

West Mt is to hit and miss, sometimes it's pretty good and next time the same beer will be meh.

Core had the same problem with consistency early on but have been solid lately.

Yeah Cigar City is the one I was referring to. Beyond that there's nothing good.
