- Steve Sarkisian fired @ USC for showing up to "multiple practices" and at least one game drunk. Tried to show up to the practice facility hammered yesterday and was escorted off the premises, AD Haden then proceeded to call Sark and says he was clearly drunk over the phone. Haden issued Sark a "leave of absence" after this phone call yesterday, fired him today.

- Will Grier, successful starting QB at Univeristy of Florida, is suspended for a full calendar year for testing positive for PEDs. Grier failed the NCAA random drug test that was issued at UF 2+ weeks ago, was allowed to play until the test was ran a second time with more a stringent testing method - which he failed. Grier held a teary-eyed press conference today admitting the purchase and consumption of some form of PEDs. The exact drug has yet to be leaked to the public, although there has been speculation. Fans of opposing teams are angry because UF supposedly knew of the failed test for 2+ weeks and allowed Grier to play.

- SI reports USCe and future college football hall of fame coach Steve Spurrier is retiring. Unfortunately this is the only info that has been leaked so far. The timetable for his "retirement" is still up in the air. EDIT: sources have reported and confirmed that the retirement is effective immediately, with an interim coach to be named tomorrow (Tuesday) morning. LINK /

I'm putting this here so we have our own place to discuss this without all the troll/flame posts of the SECr diluting the thread.

Thoughts on any of the above?

Maryland fired Edsell this week as well.

SCAR is going to have a tough time attracting a top coach with SC and possibly Texas opening up this year.

And its still early... Bad year to be looking for a HC unless you are ready to settle for one of the up and comer bridesmaids of the past offseasons like Hudspeth.

Texas won't open up this year and S. Carolina won't be attracting the same level coach as USC anyway

Strong may jump ahead of the posse, unlike Spurrier who quit like a pussy after he started taking the beat downs he delivered in the 90s.

SC Needs Fuente. He is the perfect one for that job.

He does have a good staff around him too.

Mizzou hired barry odom from him.

Just noticed they have Shibest on staff.

I was hoping Fuente would be around Memphis in a couple years just in case this whole CBB thing doesn't work out.

I hope Spurrier doesn't take a JoePa/Bear sudden decline in health after retiring. The country needs him around college football. I think he'll probably just sneak away to Augusta to play a round and never be seen again by the national media though. I can't say I'd blame him.

Edit: just saw Spurrier's press conference where he said he's not 100% retiring, that he'll "be around coaching a high school team or something." How frickin awesome would that be to have STEVE SPURRIER as your high school football coach?! Even more awesome: what if he decided to coach peewee football somewhere? Immediately I imagine him talking shite about opposing peewee coaches and players while standing in front of some bleachers full of parents.

It will be interesting to see what happens at Texas if they make a run at Jurich for AD and get him.

He will be expected by some to fire Strong, a guy he hired who put Louisville back on sound footing.

Will he do so and bring in Petrino?
