We need a special teams coach.

Segrest coaches the defensive line primarily and they have been a bright spot the two years he's been here.

Philon and Flowers took it to another level last year under Segrest. He got a lot out of a bunch of 3 star players this year.

Don't see how it's fair to put that dual responsibility on Segrest?

We get to listen to this BS every year about how you have to be good in all phases; offense, defense, and special teams

but then don't even allocate a freakin coach specifically for one of the three phases of the game that's supposed to be so important?

I believe you are only allowed 7 coaches besides the head coach and coordinators.

Oline coach
D line coach
RB coach
WR coach
LB coach
TE coach
Secondary coach

which one do you get rid of for a full time special teams coach? we already group our whole secondary under 1 coach. last year I was pissed that we didn't have a real QB coach.

simple fix. do what Bama and Auburn do. Hire 10 quality control coaches. close the practices. threaten blackballing to any media that records a second of anything. threaten expulsion to any student volunteer that records a second of anything. threaten loss of scholarship and blackballing to any player that speaks of anything.

Then you have QC guys focus on kickers, punters, snappers, coverage teams, returns, and they can assist the GA's that help with the other positions too.

How did Petrino have it lined up?

We're kind of boxed in with our current alignment, but just look at your list.

We've got a TE coach for two positions, a RB coach for two positions, a WR coach for 2-3 positions. That's three coaches for seven positions on offense.

Then we make the d-line coach responsible for his 4 positions plus six entire squads, FG, punt return, punt coverage, KO return, KO coverage, extra point.

The more I think about it, Segrest is obviously getting help from other coaches, there's no way he would be able to handle all these duties himself while Lunney spends all his time working with just 5-6 players.

Without even looking it up, I'm sure Petrino leveraged his skills on offense to free up an offensive coach for special teams.

No big deal, we can just keep losing a couple games a year due to poor special teams play.

No biggie.

John L Smith was Petrino's special teams coach.

We all know how special he is.

The entire staff splits up the duties of coaching special teams, Segrest gets too much of the blame because his past experience with special teams was mentioned during his hiring.

The "QC" positions are being used to relieve coaches of the off the field mundane "office work", scouting reports, film, etc. The same is done in the NFL.

The QC guys allow the position coaches to spend more of their time in the roles that only position coaches can do, on field coaching, recruiting, etc.

I believe that petrino had a WR coach (his brother), RB coach (horton), I'm not sure if he had a TE coach or if he did I don't remember him. our TEs were recievers basically with petrino so I wouldn't be surprised if this was the case.

Who came up with this limit on coaches... I would think the more instructional time and individual attention given to each student athlete would be right up the NCAAs alley

Isn't low student teacher radio supposed to be desirable?

I'm sure it is to protect the budgets of non p5 schools, just like most of the other rules concerning scholarship allotments and coaches.

I think it is a joke the NCAA can mandate how many coaches a program pays.
