Also a live blog of Bert meeting with media prior to luncheon: SECCountry: for more

quote:

Bielema gave the team Monday off. It’s the first day of fall classes. Fall camp concluded with Saturday’s scrimmage.

Wide receiver Keon Hatcher and running back Devwah Whaley will both be ready to go this week after wearing green non-contact jerseys during Saturday’s scrimmage.

Bielema says Austin Allen is clearly the best player at quarterback. He also brags on freshman QB Cole Kelley, but says he has a long way to go. He has not made a decision on if Kelley will redshirt. Ty Storey, the other QB competing to backup Allen, is playing “his best football” since arriving at Arkansas.

Allen “by far, if you ask everyone in the building” is our best quarterback. Austin’s numbers through fall camp have been almost identical to his older brother Brandon’s last year.

Wtf kind of shoes is he wearing

That is very encouraging but taking it with a grain of salt. I can say that if we get something close to what Brandon did last year, we will be talking about another year of improvement (9 wins+).

So Ty is the #2. I'm comfortable with that for now.

I really don't care who it is, just want the #2 guy to be prepared if he's called upon. Sounds like they are all fairly close together, except for Towns.

Can someone please explain to me why Ricky Town is buried at 4th (?) on the depth chart? I mean, is he a freaking dumbass that cant learn the play book or is he just not very good? The latter makes very little sense to me, but it's possible i guess. Surely he didnt turn down those big time schools and go to USC, transfer to Arkansas, just to ride the bench like a chump. WTH is going on... Being #2 behind Allen is one thing. Being 4th?? I just don't get it.

The playbook seems to be the issue.

A question for you recruiting guys:

Bert mentioned today at the luncheon that a SEC committed player, that he has rated #1 at his position, had contacted him after he and his family watched "Being Bret Bielema" and said that he may have rushed his decision and wanted to take a closer look at us.

Any ideas of who this player was?

saw someone on here guess that he might be a little burned out on football and he's out of his dads shadow so he kinda don't care. pretty good guess imo. or at least that's a big part of his problem

he's still got plenty of time to start caring more. we're not exactly hurting for his services

USC owed us a five star QB to come in and ride the bench. They also owe us a 5 star receiver that does get some playing time, but I think we are holding out until the wr depth chart isn't so stacked.

Jesus Bert has terrible fashion sense.

I like that in a football coach though.

**I should preface this post by saying this is in no way a WMS/GSD instagatory comment, just passing this along.**

I caught a bit of it yesterday and apparently Bert rustled some Central Arkansas jimmies again about WMS.

He was actually fairly diplomatic in terms of talking about the history of WMS and how it's neat that we play a home game away from campus and have for over a half century. He then started talking about how important it is in this league to establish a true home field advantage, and how things like staying in the same hotel and eating the same meals the night before help create a much needed routine and lend themselves to better play, and you don't get to enjoy that routine when you play 3 hours from campus.

They've been broadcasting Drivetime Sports (I listen for the lulz) up here in NWA recently and the morons were out in full force. Give the guy a ton of credit for never using nonsensical coachspeak to sidestep loaded questions and saying what he really feels.

Yeah, I am sure there are still some out there that are upset.

Most of us have taken the "meh" stance on the GSD and the athletic programs. The University hasn't put out much success (minus baseball) and the Sugar Bowl in a long, long time.
