With so many great places in the state, I'd love to get some new places to visit from people all over.

My top 5:

***5 - tie***

Rivertowne BBQ - Ozark, AR

What to get: Pulled pork sandwich

***5 - tie***

Sassy's Red House - Fayetteville, AR

What to get: pulled pork sandwich or ribs, don't miss the loaded baked potato salad. Plus - hostess and waitresses are always hot as frick

***4***

Sim's BBQ - Little Rock, AR

What to get: Ribs or a sandwich, both are awesome

***3***

Penguin Ed's - Fayetteville, AR

What to get: BBQ Chopped Chicken sandwich w/batter fries, +1 rib, onion rings or fried okra (plus fried pie)

***2***

McClard's BBQ - Hot Springs, AR

What to get: Pork sandwich and coleslaw

***1***

Craig's BBQ - DeValls Bluff, AR

What to get: "Hot dinner" - basically what is pictured below. IF you call it by its actual name, they may not even know what you are talking about. The wood paneling earns bonus points in my book

Feel free to "disagree" with your own lists. I left a bunch of good places off, we really do have a lot of good places.

I love Sim's. You don't hear much about HB's anymore, but it's probably my favorite in Little Rock. I think it's owned by the same family that ran The Shack back in the seventies. There's also a new place that's supposed to be related to The Shack, which I think is near Morgan, but I haven't tried it, yet.

NLR has several good ones. I think Pig'N Chik is one, but I always forget the names and only know them by location.

edit: The new one is the Smoke Shack and it's near Maumelle. I don't know why I said Morgan, but I meant Mayflower.

edit 2: Just realized that I said Morgan, because it's the Morgan/Maumelle exit.

I'd forgotten that his family owned a BBQ joint and don't remember which one it was.

If we are allowed to include Memphis, you have to go to The BBQ Shop. Their ribs are insane!

On a side note, do any of you guys do any BBQ smoking? If so , what kind of smoker do you use? I'm looking into buying a Kamado Joe pretty soon.

I like Dickey's (the shame, the shame). Surprised we haven't been flooded with Texas restaurants yet.

I'll list a few I really like in no particular order.

Stubby's-Hot Springs

Out near Oaklawn Park, I pretty much like everything on the menu. I usually alternate between a pork sandwich, pork ribs, and chicken. The BBQ beans are good. You can get meat to go but don't forget a loaf of Texas toast to take with you.

McClard's-Hot Springs

Makes my favorites list as well. My staple there is a chopped pork plate with beans and slaw. A chopped pork sandwich with mayo is good too. I'll eat their pork ribs from time to time and of course you can't forget the tamale spread. And they now take credit cards after years of not doing so.

Dixie Pig-Levy/NLR

Been around a long time and has been at its "new" location for years now. A chopped pork sandwich with slaw on it is the deal. I'll get some potato chips and put the thick BBQ sauce on them. The thin sauce is good on the sandwich.

Whole Hog BBQ-LR & other locations

An award winner, the pork ribs are my favorite and I like them as well as ribs I've had anywhere. Several different sauces and all are good.

Dickeys

It makes my favorites list too. Pork ribs and pork sandwiches are my favorites. The ice cream is good as well.

I like a lot of things at Penguin Ed's. Their ribs are not among them, though.

Came here to make sure tGOAT was #1 and it is as it should be.

Eta: if you've never been to craigs & plan on going, its a hole in the wall type place. Nothing fancy just amazing food. Usually make the 2 hour drive once a month for 2 medium & 2 hot pulled porks

Yep. There is no telling how much gas I have wasted going out of my way from various destinations to ensure we go via DeValls Bluff

I have a Brinkman's electric. At $80, there's nothing fancy about it, but it gets the job done. Can't say I'd recommend it, but it was a gift to get me started and it's worked pretty well.

I second the Dixie Pig, but I'm not a huge fan of Wholehog. There used to be a place in Arkadelphia that was pretty good, but I can't remember the name and have no idea if it's still around.

I have an old Brinkmans kettle smoker, an electric smoker, and a Big Green Egg.

It really depends on what I'm smoking, how much I'm smoking, the weather, and available time I have to spend on the smoking as to which one I use.

You won't go wrong with a KJ.
