Workers at one Arkansas poultry plant were denied restroom breaks to the point some "had to wear Pampers," according to an explosive new report on working conditions in the chicken processing industry.

Industry employees also have been forced to cut down on drinking fluids "to a dangerous degree," and some reported having urinated or defecated on themselves while working because they can't hold it in any longer, according to the report.

“Regarding bathroom breaks, our associates receive two 30-minutes breaks during each eight-hour shift,” Perdue said. “If an associate is unable to wait for the scheduled break and needs to use the restroom, they are to be given permission to leave the line as soon as someone can cover for them.”

Sounds reasonable

I've run into this being in the Poultry industry. I have witnessed grown men shite themselves just so they can go home. Where I have worked we had more frequent breaks and the same policy about extra bathroom breaks, they are free to go once someone covers for them. Probably half of the time these extra bathroom breaks turn into "gotta text by boo back" breaks and can be abused to the point where production is affected.

Maybe they need to adjust their processes so that having one person go take a shite doesn't shut the whole operation down.

Not sure you know the # of people in these facilities.
One person taking a shite. nobody or nothing is fazed.
20 people shitting. Ok
50? its a problem.

What is in the workplace environment that is causing 50+ people having explosive shitting problems at once?
Salmonella?

is this the real reason the rendering plant smells so bad?

50/1100
not really that high of a percentage.
This is not an epidemic or a sickness.
Salmonella would have to be ingested. If these people are ingesting raw chicken I think that speaks to the type of person we are dealing with here.

The companies mentioned in these articles seem rather strategic.
All production and processing of poultry across all the companies in the USA are for the most part the same.
The bathroom break policy is handled the same with every company and every plant I've ever been in.
Now, May there be an a-hole at a Tyson plant in Arkansas that doesn't allow enough Tinkle breaks? Probably.

From same link

Tyson said in an e-mailed statement that it does “not tolerate the refusal of requests to use the restroom.” Perdue said in an e-mailed response that the “anecdotes reported are not consistent” with the company’s policies and practices.

If they were breaking the law and knew it would the statement change at all?

Sounds like a sweat shop to me.

Yes
They would say:
We have identified a few managers who have been acting outside of our company's policies and practices and have taken appropriate action.
Tyson's commitment to its workers is paramount and we have created new internal controls allowing employees to self report any future policy violations anonymously.
