Just overheard Nasty Nate bitching about never getting to take a vacation because he writes 3 articles a week.

Lol. Dude 3 articles a week is a vacation for all of us general working people.

He is dishing some great dirt on the Tyson's, Rob Merryship, Ol' Alexander however. Also Dan Coody got a ton of kickbacks from developers for pushing their projects through.

He apparently feels that Dickson was over when ROTC got forced out.

Doubt I'll listen to it much. I imagine it's like the SECR on the radio.

Is beyond terrible.

I really miss Robbie Neiswanger. He was the one decent writer we had IMO.

That's a rather strong accusation.

That rumor has been kicked around forever. I will say that Dan has a LOT of enemies out there who feel like he's really crooked. I don't personally know anything, but a lot of people that I do know don't speak highly.

That being said, he also has a lot of friends who think he's awesome. I do think he was more of a mover and shaker than Jordan is, but I think there were probably some negatives to go along with that activity.

Who was in office when Barber was bringing a great vision of condos to Dickson St? Coody.

It's more than plausible.

ETA: next time he's in the office I'm gonna invite him to drink on Dickson and get him lickkerd up and just let the old guys talk and take notes of the old days.

Yeah. Ruskin Heights is another one that a lot of accusations flew around about.

Probably the biggest Coody hater (and rumored to have been secretly written by Jordan's chief of Staff, Don Marr) was the Iconoclast Blog. It's really interesting reading if you have an afternoon to kill:

Coody was mayor when these developments were proposed.

The Divinity hotel and condos (which never got out of the ground, another Barber failure) came to the city council for a vote. Don Marr cast the final "yes" vote in faggy dramatic fashion.

Dan Coody never had the power to "approve" or "push though" any development. If you know anything about development in the city, you'd know each and every project has to go through planning and if there is a rezoning required, it has to go through the city council. IF and only if an appeal is filed and a regular development proposal goes to the city council, and IF and only if a proposal is voted upon and a tie happens to occur, the mayor can cast a deciding vote. That's really the only power a mayor has when it comes to development.

To state that Dan Coody received kickbacks for "pushing through" development deals somehow, proves that you don't know jackshit about how commercial/residential projects are approved.

Dan proposed and "pushed through" ideas about planning and development patterns that the city still uses (when it is being smartly run) today. He also "pushed" hard for a trail system, when a lot of the good old tards ridiculed the idea in the early 1990s. He was advocating for trails when he was on the city council, and Fred Hannah was mayor.

True I don't, but read the OP again, it's not my opinion just relaying a funny conversation that occurred next to me from a sports personality that we all pretty much don't care that much for.

Oh, I wasn't being bitchy with you.

I meant whoever thinks a mayor has that kind of control over development projects going forward or not doesn't understand the process.

Alexander/Nock have done some of the best buildings in Fayetteville. They did the Three Sisters which knocked ROTC out to Highway 112, but it is also one of the most photographed and marketed buildings in the city now.

I prefer a city govt which is pro-active and helps good developers bring good product to the market. Those who have dug their heels in against change all voted for Lioneld. Lioneld does shite like support a standard crappy neighborhood market adjacent to a redeveloping area just south of downtown. I don't think he even has a college education. He strikes me more as a SJW than anything useful.

I am one of the people who thinks Coody was a good mayor overall. We have form-based zoning almost entirely because he spearheaded the effort and educated people about them. The city will look better and better in the future because of stuff he worked hard for, like tree preservation guidelines, new zoning categories, and trails and parks.

Who do you think is responsible for our sports media being so terrible? Is it the reporters or the companies that employ them?
