No doubt. Hope he lets the players attack and play aggressive.

Not too surprising but it sounds like Cantrell and O'Grady are the top two TE's with the 1's with Kraus continuing his role as the power TE when needed.

It sounds like he will. Lots of talk of players playing closer to the line and blitzing more has me hopeful.

quote:
The defense stuffed Rawleigh Williams on the first two plays, but he broke a 37-yarder on the third. Bounced outside and Josh Liddell didn't have the right angle.
Shocker
quote:
Cole Kelley came in after a few plays and hit Jordan Jones for a 63-yard TD on a crossing route. Pass traveled about 18 yards in the air and Jones outran the defense.
quote:
Big drop by T.J. Hammonds on a pass over the middle from Kelley. Would've been a big gainer. Looked like it got into his body.
quote:
Another drop by Hammonds, this time in the flat.
Interested to see how this experiment is going to work out. Not helping himself if he can't catch the ball
quote:
Kelley has been considerably better than Storey so far. Storey just missed a receiver in the flat and followed it up by sailing it over an open Jordan Jones in the end zone.
Too early to say Kelley is a lock for the #2 QB?
quote:
First move the ball drive of the day, the first team offense marched down to the 10. Ran it right at the starting defense. Only threw 1 pass.
quote:
Rawleigh Williams 68-yard touchdown run right up the middle. No one got close to him. Run game has been pretty dominant.
Welp
quote:
Tipped pass led to a Bijhon Jackson INT against Kelley. Returned it for a TD. High-stepped the final 10 yards.
Would have liked to see this

Michael Taylor and Randy Ramsey, the two starting outside linebackers, have the ability. Neither was consistently solid in shutting down the edge on Saturday, although the top tight ends have something to do with that. There were flashes from both in the scrimmage.
Umm, is this as bad as I think it is? Isnt this one of the most important parts of the 3-4?

If the DL wasn't able to do anything then the OL was basically teeing off on the front 7 and probably made it a little more challenging than normal. Hence the 400+ rushing yards. If they can't do it once they turn the DL loose then it's definitely a problem.

Okay that kind of makes sense. Expecting a lot of growing pains on defense this year.
Posted on 4/8/17 at 7:52 pm to johnzorback
Growing pains are fine as long as there's growing. The last 2 years were just pains.
Posted on 4/9/17 at 4:37 pm to johnzorback
You should expect something similar to last year's offensive line. Poor at first, solid at the end. Next year should be very good. There will be tons of more speed on the field.
Posted on 4/10/17 at 10:17 am to russellvillehog
Yea hopefully it will pay off next year, even if we're still not at the level we need to be next year we need to stay with the 3-4. Really don't want to be like sunseri at tennessee and give up on it after 2 years.

Right of passage for freshmen at this point i guess

We should've f'd up Nike by this point
Posted on 4/15/17 at 9:17 pm to RazorHawg
It makes no sense since other Nike schools aren't having this issue. i wonder if it has more to do with something Herbert is doing with them instead.

What could he do to cause a foot to break? The infamous one leg squat?
