6'10" kid but seems to be an MVC level talent just based on his offer list. Anyone know anything about this kid? Someone please tell me he's talented but raw and not that we've sunk to nothing but MVC players.

His profile says it all on the sites.

Go back and find Hunter Mickelson's profile from his senior year in HS...

The 4A isn't exactly stacked with talent over 6'6" either.

I really hope for your sake Kim isn't being pimped by Crawford by the delusion he is going to help him recruit his legit talent he has come through his team ever so often...

Special Assistant to the HC, whatever the hell that means. Recruiting is my guess. Says he's tracking recruiting, scouting opponents, managing budget and tracking academics.

Does he have some relationship with Crawford and the AAU team or something? I really don't know much about the Wings or what kind of talent they put out.

I don't know. I just have this sick feeling that Kim's idea of recruiting is more in tune with the MVC. Just using Rivals, our commits for 2015 have offers from:

Creighton, KSU, MTSU
Aub, Loyola Marymount, Ga State, W. Kty
Creighton, Miami(OH), OM, Neb, OSU, San Diego
Evansville, Lehigh, Mo State, SEMO, Wofford
Depaul, Houston, KSU, MTSU, SCe

I just think this guy fits some model that Kim seems to think will win at the high major level.

Crawford was one of the first in the game that is AAU ball today.

He cares more about saying how many kids he got D1 scholarships than he does about how they pan out once in college. He doesn't have any allegiances to a university or HC, but has in the past made it difficult for certain coaches to recruit his players and expected said coach to sign players down the road of his choosing if they signed one of his prized players.

Its more of a problem in Arkansas since he had/has a spot on a popular sports talk program to hype up his players which leads to those who don't know any better to believe his drivel like Mick being a NBA ready "stretch-4" who "at most will spend 2 years in college".

Perhaps.

He may be going for the type of player that is "thankful to be there" the can brow-beat, I mean mold, into his image, you see this out of coaches from the Iba/Sutton coaching tree.

I would be more concerned about what his plans are for him, he's 6'10" and 190lbs, VB isn't a big city with a large ghetto of malnourished minority children, they have no ghettos. Mick was the same size out of HS, he didn't have the handles or range to play the 3, he wasn't able to carry the weight and remain quick and agile once he gained the weight he felt he needed to play the 4.

Yeah, that pretty much sounds like this kid all over again.

Van Buren is 7A and was been pretty good last year for a perennial doormat in everything. Made it to the state semis and lost to Marcus Monk.

That notwithstanding, Mitchell Smith doesn't seem like SEC material but good for him for getting an SEC offer.

I thought they fell down a class a couple years ago?

Seems like they fell to 6A for a cycle a few years ago, but never as low as 4A. Definitely 7A during this cycle.

2002-2005: AAAAA West
2006-2007: AAAAAAA West
2008-20014: AAAAAA Central
2015-Present: AAAAAAA Central

Through last season Van Buren was in a combined conference but they played in the playoffs in 6A

This year they moved to playoffs in 7A

Mitchell Smith,

I'm from Van Buren, I've watched the kid play. He's soft and won't be able to cut it in the SEC unless he puts on mass. He'll be pushed around like a rag doll.

As stated in previous responses, see Hunter Michelson

Are you from Arkansas? Back then 5A was as high as it went. VB went back to 7A in 2012, don't remember how long they were 6A.

When I was in school the highest class was 5A the lowest was 4B (which was relabeled a "A" when I was in HS) , I forget they've added more classifications since then, for some reason.

No, I'm from Alaska. I've been wrong on my postal abbreviations my entire life and only figured out just a few years ago. I've been duped into being a hog fan.
