This was the first Arkansas game I ever remember intently watching on TV. I found the highlights on youtube.

Some observations after watching the highlights:

1) War Memorial was rocking that day, despite the rain.

2) Brandon Holmes looked like he was made of steel, just running straight into defenders and knocking them back every time. Dude was just a freshman and looked like a man amongst boys. It's crazy he ran the ball 42 times that day. No other Arkansas RB got a carry (I think we had injury issues). 2 years later Holmes was playing DE, and made the final play against LSU in the 2002 Miracle on Markham, getting to LSU's QB in the endzone and causing a fumble.

3) Houston Nutt got put on players' shoulders after the game. lol.

4) Ken Hamlin at safety with Caver and Bua at LB was such a fun defense to watch.

5) Boo Williams playing WR - such a great college WR. Loved hearing the crowd roar "boo" after he caught the ball.

6) This was Saban's first year at LSU. You see him showing a lot of emotion trying to rally his guys after the missed Arkansas FG.

I stood out in that game getting soaked. The announcer called it "one of the most spirited rivalries in college football".

People forget how mediocre LSU was pre-Saban.

It still feels weird that the LSU game isn't being watched with Thanksgiving leftovers and family.

Watching that 2002 Auburn game now, right after that. What the hell happened to Fred Talley? Dude was incredible that game.

So stupid of LSU/the SEC to change that.

Talley was great. Most people think of that '02 AU game when they think of Talley, but I'll never forget his TD run against LSU in the '02 Miracle on Markham. Not sure if he had any sort of an NFL career.

For LSU it means that, more often then not, they get Arkansas after they play Alabama and there isn't a worse one two punch in the SEC West.

Both teams are very physical and beat you up on the line of scrimmage. Other teams may be better then Arkansas in a given season but after you've finished a tough physical game they are the last team you want to see roll around on the schedule, particularly late in the season.

Better for LSU to play Arkansas at the very end of the season and have a chance to lick their wounds before the game. Which is why I'm perfectly happy with where the game is now, beating up LSU is the gift that gives for an entire year.

I don't even remember this game, although I know I watched it. Although, it almost seems like I remember hearing that quote by the announcer and thinking "Huh?", since The Boot was only a few years old.

The first LSU game I remember was when we beat them 30-6 our first year in the SEC. I thought that LSU and MSU would always compete for the SEC-W cellar back then. I don't remember much about the other games in the nineties, except that we went several years without beating them in the late nineties, which frustrated me, because I just thought we were slacking. In hindsight, I think LSU may have been taking the rivalry more serious then Arkansas back then, despite that they wouldn't admit it. I remember most Arkansas fans being disappointed that The Boot wasn't for Tennessee.
