Why do we EVER start off receving the ball (Offense)??

It just blows my mind how when we win the toss, we actually elect to receive.

We mainly start off slow, so why start the game with an automatic disadvantage??? Why the hell don't we always elect to kick, use our defense to pin the opposition back to win the field position battle?


Every team that wins the coin toss, gives us the ball first because they know their is a high probability we'll punt and give them field position and when we win the toss we take it anyways despite KNOWING damn well we usually start slow.

It is frustrating...
