As a player, he's now the "main" guy on the defense. Much like Nico Johnson, Rolando McClain, Donta Hightower, and CJ Mosley, he'll have to basically be the d-coordinator on the field, a leader, and a standout player. He had a very impressive junior season and him coming back along with most of the front 7 should make him a pre-season Butkys favorite.

With Foster playing right beside him this year, Jarren Reed and A'Shawn taking up space up the middle, I think around the same kinda year McClain had in '09- 100-105 tackles (93 last year), around 3-5 sacks (he had 1.5 last year), maybe 15 TFL (he had 14 last year) and maybe 2 interceptions (only 1 last year).

I am excited to see what he is going to do this season. He is a mature guy that likes to get the job done which is exactly what we need. He anchored the D down last year, and I expect big things from him this year.

Not to down the kid but he is not on the same level as Rolando, CJ, Donta etc.

For me personally in terms of talent I'm a CJ > Dont'a > Ro guy, I think Reggie CAN be equal to Ro, but that remains to be seen. He was a beast this past season, definitely above the Nico level, and Nico was always a solid player.

I think the DL is gonna get a solid number of tackles, and hopefully we get teams off the field so quickly that we don't have a lot of tackles to go around. Reggie will be a Butkus finalist, imo.

Those three were among the best LBs in the NFL last year, so that definitely doesn't "down" Ragland. It wouldn't surprise me if Ragland ended up as good as those guys though.

I'm interested in seeing Reuben play. Some of the best HS tape you'll see for an LB, I know I started to lose faith last year, but he had a really good Spring.

Rolando McClain was the best of any linebacker we've had at Bama in decades. Dude was an absolute monster in the middle and off the edge and was a tackling machine. Loved watching that guy play.

CJ Mosley comes in a close 2nd.

i agree with this.

i agree with this. And Donta would have been equal or better to both of them had he not been hurt. Ragland might be fourth now (fifth if you count Demeco Ryans), but he could be right there with them after this season. Next season will be only his 2nd year getting real PT. These other guys had several years to develop. CJ was not overly impressive in his first year on the field, albeit as a true freshman. Donta was nasty as a frosh, but he had Ro to tell him what to do on every play. And in my book the Ro and Donta combo in the middle was the nastiest LB group I've ever seen at Bama.

Ragland and Foster could be up there with them. I think Dillon Lee will be a good player too and he might get more PT than Foster. Also, I wonder if Devall will get some work at an ILB spot.

I disagree about CJ, he looked great as a true freshman competing with a lot of studs for playing time. I do agree about Devall and think he could move inside if Evans wins the job at jack.

Yeah the thing about CJ, he showed flashes of greatness in his freshman year. He did things that were obvious foreshadows of future stardom. He did have some growing pains, especially in the South Carolina game. But the writing was on the wall for CJ after the 2010 season.

I think CJ was a more skilled player but Ro was the better leader. From what I've heard from people at practice and on the sideline, Ro was a huge reason Saban was able to get such great results so quickly at UA. Apparently Ro bought in hard, and set the example for the rest of the team to follow which they did.

As for Reggie, I have no special insight or opinion that hasn't been posted already. He will likely be a Butkis finalist and have a wonderful year on his way to be a high round draft pick.

As a High School middle linebacker, I'm not sure why you would want to go anywhere other than UA.

I agree. If only Ro would have came back for his senior year in 2010. He would have been the leader that team lacked.

We win 4 straight titles if Ro is on that 2010 team.

Idk about that because the oline that year was very inconsistent and had some injuries, but I doubt Lattimore would have had 97 yards rushing (man that would have been a great battle to see. Lattimore and McClain) and Bama giving up a 24-0 lead.

I think he would've been late 1st.......a lot of reaches for LBers not a lot of depth at the position in this years draft.

He should be the first ILB taken in next years draft (barring injury)

I'm so excited he came back and expect a huge year for him

HEARD IT HERE FIRST: Ragland's nickname becomes the stapler. Records 153 sacks in a season. Wins the Heisman, leads Bama to an undefeated NC, opponents are held to an average of -16 yards a game, and first downs are given for every 3 yards gained against Alabama by midseason. The NFL team with the number one pick signs him days ahead of the draft just for safekeeping. He plays 15 seasons all with the same team, wins 7 super bowls, 6 MVPS, and the HOF makes an exception for him to be inducted before he even retires. Takes a job coaching under Kiffin in the league for a bit before returning to Bama to win 17 straight national championships shortly before being elected President of the United States and eliminating ISIS in under 17 hours on his first day in office.
